Floating Cities

Manhattan, 5 March 2005.
Taken en route to Newark from the flight deck of a Boeing 777. As you can tell, it had been snowing the previous few days. Near the top of the picture is JFK airport. I may later post this at its full 6 million megapixels size.

Palm Island, Jumeirah, Dubai, 11 May 2005.
a.k.a. 'Chav City' for British Premier League footballers. A little further up the coast is an even larger Palm Island being built at Jebel Ali, and further down the coast in the other direction is The World, still under construction. Plenty of people still don't believe these man-made islands exist yet, although it may still be some time before they're habitable: it's been belatedly discovered that there are not enough tidal currents to take away all the sewage, a problem that for centuries has beset Venice. In the lower left of the photo can also be seen the famous Burj Al Arab Hotel, the only 7-star hotel in the world.

Venice, 13 March 2005.
I've colour-corrected this photograph but not by much, the polluted lagoon really is that murky, even when seen from 35,000ft.
