Week Twelve - The Final Countdown

May 19, 2006 15:11

We made it! Oh what a feeling, TOYOTA!
It was a good year completing this unit and was a pleasure getting to know you all. I had a few people doubting whether I would make it through the semester because I had last year off to work. They thought I might bail out and go back to the $$$. However I didn't have doubts and that's the main thing. My week twelve entry is a tribute to the whole semester we spent together indulging in the many sonnets and plays of Shakespeare and the works his posse'. I hope you enjoy it.

Ode to the Norton

Monday Afternoon at 2pm
The scheduled time we grouped
Our thoughts and our questions
MG lead the troops

First t'was Twelfth Night
Malvolio you novice
They weren't keys to Olivia's heart
Dangling from the Stewards Chain of Office

Feste you rock God
Sony would have signed you
But you were from other times
From that of The Who

Sir Andrew your poor used soul
We could hear it groan
You were surrounded by money and lies
Are you still good for a loan?

Orsino Orsino
You got the girl in the end
You would have settled for your right hand
If Shakespeare felt like it my friend

Maria so cunning
Who would have known?
She walked through opportunities door
She just had to be shown

Viola/Cesario
How good were you?
You set out your goal
And your plan came through

Toby have another
This one's on me
But this is the last double
I've now bought you three

Young lady Olivia
You fell for a girl
Disguised a boy
It's a disturbing world

Next play was Henry IV Part I
A play about war
The king was oblivious
Treachory snuck in the door

Prince Hal lived the life
Pleasing the locals
Spent time with fat Falstaff
Always round and vocal

The two were always together
Joint at the hip
Never short of an insult
Always quick with the lip

Hotspur the traitor
A red-headed nothing
Spent all his time
Plotting and cussing

We then studied Walter Ralegh
I enjoyed The Lie
Straight to the point
From page to the eye

He was locked in a tower
Then left for dead
King James didn't trust him
I'm suprised it wasn't OFF WITH HIS HEAD!

Then came along Hamlet
A man of deep thought
Would never act on his plan
Hence he never got caught

Claudius you sly devil
Got the girl and the power
You would have went nicely
Next to Walter in the tower

Hamlet got you though
With a sword to the gut
In the knick of time
The curtains nearly shut

Horatio the sidekick
Faithful and true
Hurry and just say it
"Hamlet I love you"

Gertrude O Gertrude
Were you in on the plan?
To end your husbands life?
So you could marry another man?

Laertes so young
You died by your own plan
In cahoots with the king
Foolish foolish man

Ophelia why?
Lungs filled with pain
Drowned by your tears
They fell like the rain

Then came along Spenser
A man who knew he could write
Knew his words would live on
All through the night

He wrote a name in the sand
Of his lovely lady
She wasn't impressed
Thought it was shady

He knew he was right
That his words would live on
And he was correct
Proved the girl wrong

King Lear is next
Everyone knows how I feel
I don't like the man
So that is the deal

He was pompous and vain
Had little class
If I ever met him
I'd knock him flat on his arse

I'll hand it to him though
He pulled it together
Realised his faults
And vowed to be better

His daughter Goneril
Such an unfortunate name
A tribute to lifestyle?
Was that her game?

And Regan was there
Snatching more land
Lies upon lies
Her words were a sham

Cordelia was honest
One of a kind
Was the milkman involved?
Around conception time?

Poor Tom you jibberer
Crazy young man
Someone knock sense into him
With the back of your hand

Old man Gloucester
Can you see me?
Didn't think so
You got screwed royally

We can't forget about Donne
He loved to talk about fleas
Man you should beg for some help
Get down on your knees

Women won't buy it
They prefer some hygiene
Your words sugarcoated
Held in the lowest esteem

We then read The Tempest
Shakespeare's final bow
He went out with a bang
To the applause of the crowd

The only thing I remember
About that play in the end
Is Ariel frolicking golden
Put some clothes on my friend

So I say PRAISE THE NORTON!
It gave us fun times
 It gave me the reason
To praise it in rhyme

For the last time,
Tucks signing off.
