Huntopoly

One of my oldest friends and his brother own a field. And they wanted to get there friends together for a camp out & BBQ. So they thought, how are we going to get everyone from the local city to the field?
They came up with the idea of a treasure hunt. The idea being that we get the train to local town, are given a guide book and left to find out way to the field, answering questions all along the route. With Food and Prizes at the end of the path. This went so well the 3 or 4 times they ran the day last year that they decided to do it again this year.
Thus the Huntopoly idea was born. This takes the Monopoly theme and applies it to the treasure hunt. So at the briefing, we are all given 1,000 Huntpoply pounds and the chance to bid in an auction for a number of properties along the route. The idea being that if you’re at the property when the others pass, you can charge them rent. The winner at the end of the route is the person with the most cash!
Such a great idea, but then it rained :-( so the first half of the day saw us traipsing along the train, soaked and miserable, and getting lost! But we did find a pub along the way to stop and dry out!
Knowing the monopoly theme, one guy printed out £75,000 worth of monopoly notes, in the hope that he might cheat, I think he got fined £200! I got £200 for passing go, when I went back to the starting point the next day to pick up my car.
Because of the rain we couldn’t camp out and we ended up sleeping inside in a few houses. And then the next day we got everyone back together for a bbq.
So all in all a very good and enjoyable weekend, oh and I got a bit of a tan at last!
