well.
this is on first listen and if this album is like every other NIN album I'm sure it will ripen with age.
1. All the love in the world.
excellent track. great soft opener w/ trent muttering something about someone getting all the love int the world. lots of blips and bleeps. very soft. 5/5
2.You Know What You Are.
in general not so memorable
3. more of the same
4. The hand that feeds. eh, not bad its fin to hear trent try and sing 3/5
5. Love is not enough All angsty and dark. The lyrics remind me of a bitter response to the fragile. In fact this song might be the antithesis to the fragile. Ohh trent. We all knew you needed a relationship to end for you to write a new album. soft crying sounds at end. Has trent turned emo?
6. Everydday is exactly the same. Thick synth bass line and lyrics echoing my current sentiments. oooh I like. gives me goosebumps. The lyrics sound like trent is on fucking antidepressents. "everyday is exactly the same, their is no love here and their is no pain" gets jazzy towards the end. God I cant wait to hear this in high definition. This should be a single. more weird moaning/singing sounds at end. thanks trent.
7. With Teeth I must say Trent loves his synth bass lines and I also must say I love this bass line....so funky and dark all at once. but i really gotta say you sound like an idiot when you say with teetha with teetha but it grows on ya. trent gimme soma that mojo cuz this is funky shit. makes me feel like ishould be gettin a lap dance.
8. Only First off. I love the lyrics to this song and it builds. Some really fucking sweet synth lines but trents delivery reminds me of captain Kirk. its really strange. Like ttrent reciting poetry he wrote about pretty hate machine. actually probably the most reflective lyrics ive seen from trent thus far. well iTrent just went from Emo to Disco in a couple tracks. Sweet.
9. Getting Smaller loud and obnoxious. like the ol days. Trents pissed off. but its OK as he says. sweet guitar riff running through it . YES YES THE END ROCKS!!!
10. Sunspots. this is the spiritual sequal to closer. i think it even pulls part of a bass line out of it. I like this song alot. trent sings all high pitched and has some great lines. " I think I used to be someone, now I just stare into the sun"
11. The Line Begins to Blur Very heavy aggro bass kick your ass screaming straight from the downward spiral but god the lyrics are banal. I wish trents lyrics werent so repetitive at times becaise this is such a good song that I wont say is neccesarily ruined by the lyrics but some good lyrics could move this so much further
12. Beside You In Time very sad mellow track about breakups. Trent if not a poor poet is a master fucking musician. lots of droning and actually a rather upbeat beat to it forall the drones and whispers,. Then guitars. Sicksweet guitars. mmmm.tasty. more weird cryey sounds from trent. We will never end beside you in time goddamn trent. youve consistently given me goosebumps for like 4 minutes now. Just let me cum already.
12. Right Where It Belo0ngs my god this is beautiful. trent earlier in this review i said you are a bad poet but this disproves everything this is ungodly amazing. trent ive loved you for so long and loved everything youve written but i never wouldve hoped you could grow with me but this song does. I;m gonna cry now. this is everything ive felt lately. this is fucking amazing 10 10 10 pure fucking heart breaking genius. The roar of the crowd as he sings about the ultimate meaninglessness of materiality. See the animal in his cage that you built,
Are you sure what side you're on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye,
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built,
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart,
And it's all...right where it belongs
What if everything around you,
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks,
Would you find yourself...find yourself afraid to see?
What if all the world's inside of your head?
Just creations of your own
Your devils and your gods all the living and the dead
And you really oughta know
You can live in this illusion
You can choose to believe
You keep looking but you can't find the woods,
If you're hiding in the trees.
What if everything around you,
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you used to know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks,
Would you find yourself...find yourself afraid to see?
i give it a 9/10 cuz theirs a couple tracks that arent great
AWESOME
