saw autechre last night, thought maybe I should get my thoughts down and out, although I will remember it fo eva.

The day started out with me a little nervous about seeing them live. I can't stand laptop shows, they kinda get me pissy. I just assumed they would be laptopping.

The opening DJ WAS laptopping, so that was a downer, although he was jamming pretty hard. When Autechre showed up, the lights went down and they were definitely NOT hitting the laptops. They had a bunch of equipment bleeping lights in the dark and they were moving in the shadows back there. When I say lights down, I mean lights down too, the room was extremely dark.

First thing, BOOM, a fast killer bass attack hit, I had hunted out the sweet spot in the Doug Fir (right in front of the sound booth, guys know what they're doing there) and the sound system was top notch. This was the highest fidelity bass I had ever heard. And Autechre were doing things with it that should be illegal.

They proceeded to play for about an hour and a half, no breaks, all one set, all melded together like they were DJing, but they were chalking it up on the fly, VERY weird shit, very dancey, very glitchey, really all the greatest things about their music pumped up and cranked out in a very cool bar with real good sound. I was knocked and stunned out. Still trembling 24 hours later.

Just one more lesson for me to keep my expectations low, don't run from a fight and stop jumping to mother-fucking conclusions!

Here's a guy dancing to them, and doing a mighty fine job if I do say so meself:
