I think it's crap. Some might say that hunting deer is no different, but it really is.
Deer hunting prevents crop damage
Seal hunting does not.
If there were no deer hunting, a lot of deer would die through the winter anyways due to lack of food. Less food, more deer = dead deer
This does not happen with seals.
Seal hunting is essential to families receiving income? Bullshit, there is more to fish than seals.
In deer hunting, you're not allowed to kill fawns or bucks with less than 4 points.
The seal hunt is MADE to kill baby seals.
A deer is hard to hunt, and can very easily get away.
The seal just sits there looking at you while you club it.
When you kill a deer, the deer is dead before it gets skinned, etc..
Seal hunters only paralyze the seal before skinnging it. Meaning they sometimes skin it alive.
When you kill a deer, you have to pay for the meat.
When you kill a seal, you're getting paid to kill it.
Each state gives out a certain amount of licenses to hunt deer. And a certain time period to get them.
If all the licenses are not filled by the time the season is over. It's illegal to kill a deer.
The seal hunt is a lot different. The goverment sets a number of how many seals have to be killed. I think it's 390,000. Anyways, the hunt doesn't END until that limit is met.
Some of these are a poor mans arguement, but I'm not really arguing with anyone. So the bottom line is.
The Annual Seal hunt should be stopped.
