So there I was in Goshen, IN visiting a friend. It's Mennonite country so horse-drawn Amish (who technically aren't Mennonite) buggies almost outnumber the pickups in the Super Walmart. At any rate there's some really great salt-of-the-earth people.
Take for representation, a older lady I met one early morning as I was headed to the farmers market. She had just gotten up, sitting outside of her one bedroom apartment smoking the first cigarette of the day on a wobbly, plastic chair.
Being neighborly, because I'm from Iowa, I said to her, "Good Morning, how are 'ya?" Her reply, completely off-the-cuff was this: "Well...I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but I didn't break anything, so I guess I'm o.k."
Salt of the Earth!
