(This is a copy of an email you nay have seen, but for the rest of you . . . )
I'm sure most of you remember that I competed last year in the
Grappler's Quest National Championships in Morristown, NJ. I tried it again this year on 6/12.
My plan was to compete in the Men's Intermediate class - 18-36 months of grappling experience, and Executive (age 30+) Advanced class - 24+ months of grappling experience. I entered both, but due to a snafu on their end I didn't get put in either bracket. We discovered that in time for the Advanced but the Intermediate was already underway. So sadly I missed on the division I was probably skilled enough for, but I still got to go with the big boys.
Sadly I went 0-2 on Saturday. I fought pretty hard but my first opponent was very good and I lost by submission - a front naked choke. However since my opponent eventually got to the finals, I was put in a match for 3rd place with the other guy who lost to the other finalist. That's the second match, below. I lost that one on points, mostly because he kept very, very good control of me from the top and I just went for submissions from the bottom.
Here are the videos:
First Round, vs. Jon Nandor of
Black and Blue. He eventually took 2nd place.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQd8dYrApJM I was disappointed in my losses, of course, and angry that I'd had to miss the other division. But still, according to my coach, Phil, I was in over my head, but still made a good show. My plan is to keep doing the Advanced division in my age bracket - I won the lower division last year, so why not? We'll see how it turns out next time.
Thanks for supporting me.
