It made sense at the time not to, with the Vietnam War having just ended and being smart and lucky enough to win a scholarship to Syracuse University. I didn't realize until I was in my 30s and 40s how valuable it would have been, even for just a 2-year hitch. I have deep respect and gratitude for all soldiers and veterans, and especially for those who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve freedom.
