That's conservative Australian Prime Minister John Howard there with Bush.
You won't ever see that again, because yesterday his party lost the Australian election and exit polls show that he even lost his own seat. The new Prime Minister-elect, Kevin Rudd, has stated that he will pull Australia's combat troops out of Iraq and sign the Kyoto agreement (Australia is, per capita, the biggest polluter in the world, by the way). What's sad is that Rudd is considered a "centrist", but he's willing to do those two things. We can't get the Democrats here to come out in favor of either fully. What does that tell you about how far to the right they really are?
Poor, poor Bush, first the people of Spain drummed his buddy, José Aznar, out of office, then Tony Blair's own party forced him to go in the UK, and his replacement, Gordon Brown, is watching his poll numbers sink lower with each day, and now his buddy in Australia doesn't even have a seat in parliament anymore. I feel sooo sorry for him. *giggles*
Anyhoo, that was fun to wake up to, but I hate I couldn't sleep, ugh. Yesterday was a blast, however. Joe, Morris, Robbyn, and I went to Mekvilai (Thai place) for dinner, then back to my pad to listen to the music and drink the beers. I let Joe play my Virus and had a hard time getting him away from it again, heh. I totally understand, of course. Then we watched The Holy Mountain, which may be the most fucked up film I have ever seen. I made the comment that if David Lynch was sitting there with us watching it, he would say, "Now that is a fucked up strange piece of film". I, of course, loved it immensely, but I would.
Man, sucks I've only got a few hours sleep, but I think the Thai food (and the red chili sauce I put on it) and the beer made my stomach upset. Yuck.
We shall get breakfast at Cafe Gouda in a little while, I'd imagine, and then I'll give Joe the "faZe had sex here" outdoor tour that I give all my visiting out of town friends.
p.s. Robbyn started eating meat. For as long as I've known her (ten years or so), she's been a vegetarian. When she told me, I was happy, because I'm selfish, and her eating meat means we now have a ton of different places where we can go out for food. I asked her, a bit shocked when she told me, why, and she said, "chicken....", heheheh.
p.s.s Republican Senator from Tennessee Bob Corker said recently at a Iraq War meeting that Bush was a shallow moron, haha. See below from Think Progress:
“I was in the White House a number of times to talk about the issue, and I may rankle some in the room saying this, but I was very underwhelmed with what discussions took place at the White House,” Corker said.
A few minutes later during a question and answer session a man in the audience asked him to clarify his statement.
“I was concerned about your statement that you were underwhelmed with what was going on in the White House. Did you mean with him or with his staff?”
In response, Corker said, “Let me say this. George Bush is a very compassionate person. He’s a very good person. And a lot of people don’t see that in him, and there’s many people in this room who might disagree with that…. I just felt a little bit underwhelmed by our discussions, the complexity of them, the depth of them.”
p.s.s.s Sorry, but this is funny too. Robbyn is pretty apolitical most of the time, but when she does have something to say, she's on the left. Joe's a NeoCommunist, and I'm, of course, a Socialist. Morris, on the other hand, is a Republican and Bush supporter, oddly enough. It was pretty funny to watch his face while Joe and I was discussing the death of the US economy as a direct result of the Reagan Revolution 27 years ago knowing that Morris likes Reagan. He knew enough to not try to debate us, however. I do like Morris, by the way, and get along with him well, so I hope that being around me will make him "see the light" at some point, but I'm very passive in my politics around him, because nothing is worse than someone on a mission to change your opinion.
