A blue portal opened up on the mainland, just shy of the Causeway. "We finally got here. This is it," Jessica said as she stepped through.
And then she looked around. "Crap." Red portals were opening sporadically, and each time one did, a couple more Kravens or Vultures came through and rushed across the Causeway. Only now they slowed. They could smell the Totems in front of them.
"The good news is that I'm not getting a reading on any Inheritors," Jessica said.
"Nah, we've got these guys. And the way they're running across Fandom, the locals should help keep things tidy enough," Ben said. "No, the bad news is that if they've been opening portals here and that Verna lady has been on her heels for days, we're gonna be meeting her real soon."
As the Kravens started to circle around them, Ben stayed focused and held up what looked like a price scanner connected to a cell phone. "And as soon as we scan Verna to get a read on her dimensional whatever, we'll send that and move into delay tactics."
Peter snapped the device on his wrist and nodded. "I'll be there in a few minutes and text as soon as it's done. The second you get that, cross the Causeway. She won't be able to follow. Good luck."
As the Kravens broke formation and started to rush in, Peter flipped over them and began a sprint across the Causeway and onto the island.
"You know, I'm pretty tech-savvy and I've got GPS on my phone," Ben noted as he hurdled a Kraven and downed a Vulture with a flurry of stingers fired from his webshooters.
"He knows the location and the terminal," Jessica said, striking a pride of Kravens with well-placed punches to bring them down quickly. "You've got the weapons. It's the right call and you know it."
"Doesn't mean I'm not going to point things out, boss," Ben said as he let some of those weapons fly. Between the impact webbing quickly engulfing the Hounds in webs and stingers knocking them out, the herd was being thinned quickly.
Another red portal opened, and Verna of the Inheritors stepped through it. "You've led me on a wonderful chase, Totems," Verna said. "But it's all over now. I have my food and my destination, all at once."
"My Hounds, join your brothers. I need no help here." Whatever Kravens and Vultures remained immediately made haste toward the island, leaving only the Spiders between herself and Fandom.
"Oh, you need help, all right. Definitely a psychiatrist," Jessica taunted. "Absolutely a nutritionist. Try some leafy greens for once." Jessica pointed all fingers at Verna and unleashed a massive stream of webs. Most wouldn't hit her, and none would hold her for long, but they only needed a few seconds to act.
Ben fired three balls of impact webbing before snagging her with a webline and pulling himself in close. As she struggled against the engulfing streams of webs, Ben kicked her in the webbed face and aimed the scanner at her exposed stomach.
After three of the longest seconds of his life, the scanner pinged. "Got it, Jess! Here!" He threw the scanner and phone before turning and firing stingers at Verna's stomach from point blank range.

"Done! Let's do this! While she's off balance!"

And before Ben knew it, a slash went across his throat, her fingernails cutting deep.
