Today throughout Europe and the Commonwealth we remember those who have died in wars fighting for freedom from tyranny and those who have died for our countries in distant lands in the name of peace.

All through evolution we have fought wars with our neighbours, sometimes in defence, sometimes in offence, as a species we have grown to use better weapons and better tactics, till going to war now is not as painful an experience as it once was.

In the long years of WW1 there were many tens of thousands of soldiers from many countries who died for just a few feet of what now is Belgium land. Mindless slaughter ordered by those who did not have a true vision of what was really happening upon the fields of the Somme.

Flanders fields will forever bring up the remains of those who are still lost, their last seconds spent in the hope that they may be finally fighting the winning battle and they would be able to return to their homes. Whole communities lost their Fathers, Brothers and Sons in those fields. Their bodies never to be returned to them.

This is the day we remember those who will never return to those who loved them the most.

This is the day whole Countries take the time to stop and remember.

We should never forget.

And we should also remember the lessons we learned.

Take a moment in your day to stop and think about just how much is owed to those we never met, those who never knew what the future may hold and those who stood up and decided to be counted.

In those who has passed before us was a belief that the world could become a better place.

Believe in them and we believe in a better world.

Today we remember them.
