This last weekend was awesome.. We took the bikes and joined some friends up at Blue Lake OHV area, a beautiful area 50 miles above Kirkwood off highway 88 in the Sierra's. The lake is at 8000ft and the MC / 4x4 roads and trails can take you well above 9000ft (above the tree line, it's very cool.). We tent camped and even though it was in the 30's at night our Hobbitat 6 REI tent was fantastic. We slept warm and the tent is big enough to offer lots on room to "live in".
The lake was gorgeous:

On the bikes we had a great time, and frankly this is what motorcycles, at least dirt machines, are made for. The dirt roads (steep, rocky, and at times snow covered) were fun and challenging. Both Dana and I learned a bit and really had a blast getting to know our new bikes. Her CRF230F is a great machine, lots of power but all in a polite and controllable package. My DRZ400E is amazing, smooth and easy to ride, lots of power, and the brakes are awesome. So we, Dana and I, have found a new thing to do... And the best part is that we can do it together.

This was truly a wonderful place and once again we are reminded at how lucky we are to live in such a diverse and beautiful place.
