Hello Kiddies,
We have finished celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwaanza, and Boxing Day in Canada, and since I saw both Valentine's and Easter (!!!!) candy in the store earlier, the holdiays are winding down. Apparently though judging by how busy I am, people still are either doing massive amounts of cheer or just drowning their sorrows. Traditionally, the week between Christmas & New Year's is mostly dead, with the exception of a few extra cases of bubbly here and there. Due to a strange glitch in business, we are INSANELY busy this week. We shipped 70,000 cases yesterday, 60,000 today & 50,000 more expected tomorrow. I did a double shift today, took 2 trucks out, over 1000 cases. Either way it's almost done as we will be officially sending off the season, and the year in just about 24 hours.
I enjoyed the holidays, Christmas was spent with family and food. Vincent enjoyed his mounds of toys, including the significant stash that he got from Santa & Uncle Pete. I got to hang out with the Jolly Ol' Fella when he stopped by to drop off a few things. Santa had his Milk and Cookies, and even offered him a bit of my Jack, but he doesn't drink on the job.
The goodies included some really nice Star Wars Playsets, a play Tent, and the wonderfully insipid 'Flippin Frogs' game. I'm actually getting that to for myself to bring to future game nights, the thought of mostly inebriated adults attempting it is just too much fun to think about. The adults in the family decided not to do gift exchanges this year, which for some reason didn't bother me as much as it should have. We all have our health and innumeral amounts of blessings to be happy about. One more little blessing will be coming in 2009, as Vincent will be welcoming his new baby brother, due in May and tentatively named Matthew.
Post-Christmas it was good to spend some time with friends and pay long overdue visits to Hefe and Roberto, respectively. Some of you that I have been playing schedule tango with, we'll get that dance in eventually!
Of course I can't wrap up any series of TTS Posts without mentioning the new additions to our
Pop-Culture Tree! This year's addition's include old standbys like the Peanuts gang (Lucy & Woodstock Ice Skating), Looney Tunes (Bugs, Daffy & Elmer Fudd
asking that age old question), Star Wars (Luke & Vader's Death Star Battle), and the Muppets (my abso fave this year, Statler & Waldorf in the balcony hurling insults!). Characters making their Tree Debut this year are; Indiana Jones, Megatron, the M&M's, George Jetson and Astro (Jane stop this Crazy thing!), Space Ghost, The Joker, Scooby Doo, Sam the Snowman (Burl Ives sings A Holly Jolly Christmas), A PAC-MAN arcade game that lights up, and last but not least, Captain Kirk complete with falling Tribbles! I guess I managed to be cheerful in spite of myself this year. Vincent has a great time pressing all the buttons.
Tomorrow I'm spending a quiet, low-key NYE with family and after all the craziness that this year has brought (both good and bad), it seems rather fitting.
When I looked in on last year's final TTS post, the last line made me laugh my ass off.
"This has been a very difficult year. I know the challenges of 2008 will be just as daunting, and I'm prepared to meet them and their consequences."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
To quote my favorite
exchange student from Cameroon, Merry New Year! Beef Jerky time!
In other words, Blessings to you and yours in this and all the years to come, Love you guys.
