Layoffs, continued

Mar 18, 2009 21:24

I immediately thought "What? Me? Why me? Why is my position on the layoff list?"
But then I thought,
this is civil service, and therefore this process is anything but simple.
And it also means I won't lose my job.
Because I have seniority. A lot of seniority.
If my position is eliminated,
a standard process would be triggered.
I would get demoted to a position below me in the same title sequence.
And a person in that position is then in jeopardy.
And then they bump a person below them, etc.
It's even more complicated than this and I don't really understand it,nor do I want to.

Essentially what they've done is get everyone ticked off and nervous
because they didn't just pluck new low-level titles.
They picked a big variety!
To plan the chaos.
And instill fear.
So that we all say
"Do anything you want, just don't lay us off!!!"
And it also ensures
that morale will henceforth be in the toilet.

Then late in the day I got word
from someone connected to the politicians
who are pulling these strings
that my name was just removed from the layoff list.
Apparently the boss told one of the super high ups
that one of the five positions they sought to remove was me,
and then my name was taken off. Or so I'm told.
