TM topic 186 Religion

I went with Aunt May and Uncle Ben to church every Sunday when I was growing up. We made food for the church socials together and I got to be one of the older kids that helped keep the younger kids amused so they didn't cause trouble. I think I attended every vacation bible school and youth group function until I was at least 16.

But I don't know if I'm religous.

I've read the bible and I can do a fair job of keeping up if you want to talk basic theology but it's always just been words to me. I've never told anyone how I really felt about it. I either didn't want to be embarassed by telling people I went to church (when you're a teenager these things matter) or I didn't want them to be dissapointed in me.

The closest I have ever felt to feeling like there really is a God out there was having to stand and watch them put my Uncle Ben into the ground. There was just something about how the day felt and for once the words that were read out of the bible didn't feel quite as hollow.

Not that it brought me any comfort. It just made me realize if there is a God he doesn't give a damn about us so we need to pick up the slack.
