Is United Airline's dreaded boarding group 7 a sneaky way of forcing customers to buy some kind of upgraded seat in order get predictable overhead bin access?
I've flown twice on United in the past two months. Ended up in boarding group 7 both times. One was a discount flight offered by United directly. The other was a frequent flyer redemption via a third party.
Boarding last is can be nerve-wracking if you're carrying $3000+ of camera and computer gear that would not survive being checked. As you're waiting to board, you're repeatedly told that groups 6 and 7 may not get room in the overhead bin.
