Happy Saturday all!
Storm and I are on day 3 and having a very relaxing time. The flights over went so smoothly that I actually found myself smiling on the flight to LAX. Those who know what a basketcase I am with traveling will know what a rarity that is! Today has been the first day the ship has had internet signal. Apparently, on this west bound track the ship's equipment blocks the satellite link. A final turn to the southwest has opened the channels. The shuttle bus we first entered ended up breaking down-a problem with the air pressure for the brakes, so we had a bit of craziness getting to the boat. I was shocked how beautiful Long Beach proved to be. Even in the US you can have turquoise waters. I have taken dozens of photos so far and we haven't made it to the Islands! I will have to hold off sending any pics until we dock, the internet is very slow here, but HEY it's amazing to me that we get to connect at all.
We have made a few pleasant aquaintances since we boarded and the service is everything they say it is. The staff greets you by name every chance they get and they are always smiling and eager to help. Asep, our stateroom steward has been very surprised by our extended cabin time. LOL Storm had to explain to him that "we are here to relax so yes you will see more of us." Besides some of the staff, it appears we are the youngest couple aboard. This turns out to be quite a treat though, as everyone has such interesting adventures to share. I feel like I've have been sleeping half my time here, but my bed is a great mix of firm but squishy that I just can't seem to get up and at it!
One couple, Larry and Judy (he's a police officer, she is a teaching nurse) spent lunch with us at our favorite table. Then I met back up with Judy for Bingo. She won for the 1st time in her life, so she insists I am her lucky charm. I feel pleased but silly about that.
The ocean is incredible, every single vista is gorgeous and enrapturing. Our stateroom has large window and I have started pulling the chair over to prop my feet up and just soak in the view. The ms Volendam's theme is floral, so the tables all sport orchids and the fabrics sneak the floral prints in all over.
I'm still working out the schedule of things, I simply couldn't find the morning stretch session this morning, but I am stumbling across activities all the time. The 2nd day on the water proved to be quite rough, and the ship swayed and rolled. In a bit of serendipity, this caused the pools to have their own surf and break, which made swimming alot of fun. It also made Storm's waterproof camera completely worth it. I've had my patch on since I boarded so I don't know if I would have been seasick, but why chance it??
The cruise, thoughtfully, has thick rugs in each elevator to tell us what day we are on.
I really feel blessed and spoiled and grateful for this adventure. I know it would not be possible without my Bear and I'm delighted to be sharing our 7th wedding anniversary in this beautiful place with him. I hope all is well stateside and I'll write again soon.
