I guess it was a day of dualities. I was pretty much exhausted the whole day (I don't really know why I was more tired than usual), and it was kind of raining and disgusting the whole day, but it was also an awesome day.
Sarah worked hard to get a 9/11 ceremony together and she had the amazing idea to make almost 3,000 flags to commemorate the victims of 9/11. So. For the past two days I've helped make flags, and while I helped finish quite a few I didn't put in nearly as much work as the other girls (and members of the Republican club, shudder). That being said, it was totally worth it and I was so happy to be a part (albeit, a small part) of the event.
It was just really touching. A bunch of people who had nothing to do with the planning of the project or anything were out on the lawn in front of Capen, in the rain, sometimes for hours, fixing all the hand-made flags that had fallen apart. Some guy in a blue shirt was out there at 8 something in the morning, and was still there when I came back after lunch at 3:00. In the morning, I hear some of the construction workers used screw drivers to drill better holes into the ground for the flags too.
I mean, they were up from 1 AM to 5AM just putting these things out, not to mention the hours upon hours of assembly. It really was amazing.
So. I got drenched in the rain today, but that's kind of ok, because what I saw today was just...amazing beyond words. And I feel bad for any one who missed the display, hopefully it will still be around tomorrow.
Tonight was also a good evening, despite the tiredness. Sigh. I am off to bed now. Or soon. No class tomorrow. :)
