So, here it is near the end of March and getting close to Easter. On Thursday I will drive Leona to work in Chassell and drop the dogs off at the Sturgeon River Kennels nearby. Hopefully they will enjoy their vacation. Sham's back has been sore but the kennel is all ground level and the dogs will have a heated 5X5 room and a large yard to go out in. We'll take their crate and a couple of towels and blankets so they feel more at home. From there I will drive back up to Calumet (21 Miles) to get Zach to take to school. I'll hang around Houghton for awhile then drive down to Chassell to pick up Leona and back to Tech to get Zach then off to the Cities to for Easter. Should be fun but busy weekend.
I have been subbing a lot recently. I enjoy that. Mostly up at Horizon Alternative HS. I taught there a few years ago and like the school, the staff and the kids. Also at Calumet and at Chassell. Subbing up here is easier than subbing downstate. The classes are smaller and the kids are better. It does seem strange to work in schools that are far smaller than any I ever worked in in East Detroit. Chassell school has less than 300 K-12. Horizon has around 50. Calumet is larger, but still not big by downstate standards. It was great this year to have Calumet win the state division 3 hockey championship in overtime. Here is a little video.
We keep plugging along with winter. Over 250 inches so far, but only two snow days. Those who have lived up here know that they do a good job for all our snow in keeping the roads cleared. If you don't know here is another short video showing a sno-go clearing the road behind us.
Leona has applied for a couple of jobs in other places, but we will probably just stay here. I can collect social security this summer - (so keep working hard folks) and still sub next year. So we should do okay. Leona can do Americorps another year. Chassell would like to have her back.
I've continued to do well with submissions to poetry magazines and am going to submit some chapbook manuscripts this spring. See what happens.
Probably enough for now.
