A Heart So Ravenous Chapter 14

Need to rant a little here about the Weasleys.

I do understand that reconciling with the Weasleys was important for Harry. This is his adopted family, the people who accepted him when he had no one else to depend on. We had always found them to be so sympathetic, especially when compaired to the pureblood families like the Malfoys, who always came across as manipulative and cold. Maybe that is why I'm so absolutely dissapointed in their behavior here.

I can understand that they were upset when Harry broke up with Ginny, especially when they learned that Harry had cheated on Ginny. It didn't help that the one Harry had chosen was Draco, the son of a man who had given them nothing but misery. I know that they were still dealing with the loss of Fred, which devistated all of them. And perhaps mourning the fantasy that by marrying Ginny, Harry would become a Weasley in everything but birth. But I would have hoped that their love of Harry would have enabled them to get past their own hurt and accept Harry and his choices.

I'm sorry, but I just cannot accept that after learning that the man that Harry loved had nearly died and was in St. Mungo's, that they wouldn't make at least some inquirey as to what was happening. Especially after reading in the press, just to ask what was happening. Weeks passed and no contact from them... not a floo call, or an owl... nothing. It's pretty shoddy behavior from a family that prides themselves on closeness and acceptance of their children.

I can understand them not having compassion for Draco. They are only human, after all. This is the son of a man who was their enemy for so many years, and the man that Harry left Ginny for. But even to check on Harry, to see how he was doing. This is a young man who they took in as another son, who they loved and looked out for and protected since he was eleven years old. He had watched the lover being tortured and raped and had absolutely no support from the people that he considered family.

Maybe it's the Russian in me, but I'm not great at forgiving things like that. The Wealeys might not like Draco (though George oddly seems to be the most understanding of him), but this is still the man that Harry loves. Even if they didn't care if Draco lived or died, they abandoned Harry when he needed them most. Weeks went by while Harry struggled to hold himself and Draco together and recover, and no contact or inquirey from the Weasleys. There is no excuse for that.

I do understand that Harry will forgive them and want to be a part of them again, but they will have to accept that if they want Harry to be a part of their lives, they will have to accept Draco as a part of it. They will have to be willing to look past Lucuis Malfoy and Draco's behavior as a youth and try to see what it is that Harry sees in Draco.

Any thoughts? Or am I really being too harsh on the Weasleys?
