It's so quiet. Everyone is napping! We flew from Boston to South Carolina, departing at 4:15AM and arriving at 2PM (briefly stopping through Detroit and North Carolina). We immediately went down to Lake Hartwell, rigged the boats, and ran 4 miles as the sun made the sky crimson before disappearing behind the straw-yellow fields. For the first time in many months, I encountered the crescent moon and Orion, the star (and perhaps later, Orion, the boy). Today, we rowed on the orange-colored(!!) lake for 3 hours from sunrise, and we have a wee break from 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon before we row again for 3 hours until sunset. When someone said, "oh for spring break, we're going to someplace warm, like Florida", a girl on the team truthfully responded (in reference to crew spring training), "we're going to someplace hot, like Hell."
But whatever, I am living in a suite-room!!! (inordinate amount of space, fluffy beds, enormous bathroom, bath & body works products, 2-ply toilet paper, high-speed wireless access, beautiful view of the river). The breakfast bagels are yummy. And, I'm in the South-- with a search and destroy mission on some grits, babyback ribs, and cornbread.
