https://archiveofourown.org/works/16661801 My sixth JosuYasu fic for this amazing event. It’s still in the same universe as my other fics for the Josuyasu Week 2018, but it can be read as a standalone. We are finally out of the JJBA: DIU canon! Still unbeta’ed, and errors are still mine. If you find any, let me know so I can fix ‘em. You know the drill. Enjoy!

When all was said and done, Josuke would admit that the Summer of ‘99 would mark a before and after in his life. Not only it had been the first time he used Crazy Diamond for the greater good and with a more responsible attitude (well, most of the times), but it marked the start of a Stand user community in Morioh. He might have lost her beloved grandfather, but also gained a new family, and not just because of new-found blood relatives. That’s why he decided he would go and enjoy that year’s summer festival. Something he hadn’t done since he had both grandparents alive. Besides, with all that, ahem, allowance, he got from his old man before he returned home, he was bound to have a fun time with friends and family.
The group was supposed to be meeting in about three hours at the torii of the local Shinto Shrine, where the festival will take place. He was going to the meeting point with Okuyasu, who decided to leave his pops and Stray Cat at home with plenty of food. Neither enjoyed fireworks or large crowds. Okuyasu promised to bring them lots of treats though. Tomoko was meeting with an old college friend there, but she would walk with them to the festival.
Josuke thought it was about time he started getting ready with a good soak and a thorough skin care routine. By the time he went to his room, his mom had already put his new yukata on the bed. He had outgrown his last one ages ago. Granted the last time he used it, he was still a middle-schooler. He dressed as quickly as he could, before starting on his hair. Okuyasu was bound to come any minute now.
The doorbell rang.
Speak of the devil… Josuke could hear Okuyasu greeting his mom from his room. A couple of knocks on his door and Okuyasu invited himself in.
“You really need to wait until I tell you you can come in, man. One of these days, you are going to find me jacking off and then where would we be!” He grumbled, still working on the pomp.
Okuyasu blushed, but rolled his eyes. “Your own fault for trying to pull one off when you know I was coming over.”
“Bad choice of words, Okuyasu.”
“It’s not my fault you have a dirty mind, Mr. “Love Kind Of Guy”. Geez!”
“My heart is full of pure love, but my body has needs.” And with that he gave Okuyasu an one over. “Nice legs, by the way!”
Okuyasu was wearing cargo shorts, the tightest tank top Josuke has ever seen on him, and a open shirt criminally hiding his shoulders. “Thanks, man. I don’t skip leg day.” He smiled at the compliment, just as he smiled at any compliment given to him. Then he gave his own one over to his best friend. “That’s a nice yukata. The color compliments your eyes!”
Josuke gave him a winning smile, and gave a little twirl, showing off the dark blue yukata, with bubblegum pink and silver flowers. “I know, right? It also makes my ass look great!” He posed while still styling his hair.
“Well yes. But your ass always looks great. Why do you even have that much ass?! If I weren’t your friend I would be distracted all the time and my grades would be even worse.”
“Dunno man. Good genes, I guess.”
“But you are wearing a yukata” Josuke gave him a look. “Kidding! Also, no offense to your hot mom but she ain’t got one as big as yours!”
“First, stop checking my mother’s assets. Second, I think I got it from my old man. Remember those photos? You could notice from the tight jeans and crop-tops he wore when he was young.”
Okuyasu put his left fist over his right palm. “Oh yeah. Really fashion forward, your old man. Rohan wishes he were that fashion forward. Where did all that style go though?”
“Well, he’s old now. I don’t really want to see an 79 year old in crop tops.”
“True, true.”
“OK, I’m done now.” Josuke finally put his comb and hairspray down. “Was mom ready when she opened the door?”
“Yep. She was even more beautiful in that yellow yukata.” Okuyasu smiled dreamily.
“Ugh. Creep.” Josuke kicked him lightly in the shin. “I’m going to kick you out of this house and never let you return.”
“Naw man! Besides, you’ll miss me. You love me too much!” Okuyasu went to hug him, but Josuke took a step backwards.
“Watch the hair, you slut!” He tapped Okuyasu’s right pec, visible by the “cleavage” of his tank top. Did he mention it was very tight?
“Shut up! You just want to cop a feel! Pervert!” Okuyasu went to hide his chest with his arms, in a good impression of a bashful girl.
“Slut!”
“Pervert!”
“You are the one getting distracted by my ass!”
“Not all the time!”
“Are you boys ready?!” Tomoko’s dulcet tones screamed at them.
Half an hour later they were close to the meeting point, where Tomoko recognised someone among the throngs of festival goers.
“Shinobu-san! Hey! Shinobu-san!” A beautiful red haired woman turned around with a smile. She was wearing a light green yukata and a little boy with a darker green yukata was holding her hand.
Josuke pinched a distracted Okuyasu, who was giving the new woman some less than inconspicuous looks. “Isn’t the boy that Hayato kid? Mom’s friend must be Hayato’s mom! Small world!”
Okuyasu woke up from his trance and looked at where Josuke was surreptitiously pointing at. “Oh yeah! That his mom?! Why is everybody’s moms so hot!”
Josuke elbowed him, and then grabbed his hand to walk over where his mom and the other two were. “Hey Hayato!”
Both women turned to their respective sons, looking surprised. “Hayato, baby, how do you know Tomoko’s son?”
Hayato looked both surprised to see Josuke and Okuyasu there, and embarrassed to be put on the spot.
“Hey Kawajiri-san! We know Hayato because we helped him with…” Here Josuke trailed off.
“With a bully. Josuke and Okuyasu helped me with a bully who followed me to school.” Hayato answered quickly.
“Is that true, Josuke?” Tomoko looked at her son.
“Yeah…” Josuke smiled and scratched his neck.
“Hayato, you never told me you were being bullied! Oh, my baby has had a terrible summer. What with his papa missing and then being bullied.” She cleared her throat against sudden tears. “I’m glad you raised such a good young man, with such good friends” She smiled at the teens.
“Josuke! Okuyasu! Over here!” They were saved! Koichi called to them from some meters away. He was with Yukako, both wearing matching yukata like the cute couple they were. Ugh. And some meters behind was Rohan with a new crop top and low riding pants that somehow turned into boots? Double ugh. But at least the awkward encounter could be over and done with.
“Excuse us, Kawajiri-san and Hayato! We are meeting with friends! Bye mom!” Josuke smiled and grabbed Okuyasu’s arm.
“Take care, Hayato! I still have Stray Cat if you want to visit him!” Okuyasu walked backwards, pulled by Josuke, as he waved his free arm.
Hayato cringed.
