Obligatory Update on Recent Proceedings

The year is 2006.
Month January.
I had a date with a certain Music Festival.
She was so beautiful, all in her White Stripes and other eclectic outfits.

On the night before, I had a rendezvous with a certain other person of radiant beauty who we shall call Eilatan to hide her identity. We hit the Kings Arms, which is pretty much our usual place to hang out and do cool kids things like seeing huge international bands. Tonight, Sleater-Kinney was on the bill, with support from Teenwolf. This was good news, as our previous Teenwolf experience was indeed a fine occasion. This did not disappoint at all, many a joyus hand clapping was passed to them in exchange for more good music.

Sleater-Kinney was unbelievable. I can't explain just how good it was. The set consisted mainly of songs off The Woods, but there was a few songs off a bunch of other cds too which was cool. Corin has the most unspeakably amazing voice, Janet Weiss is a machine, honestly, and Carrie also rocks hard. So jealous.

So the next day was the BDO. I managed to be not a total pleb and figure out which train I was supposed to catch to get to Natalies Aunties place. I did have to ring up and see where I was supposed to be going once I got off and then navagated the streets and had to call again to find out which number house it was, since it all looked vaguely familiar to me.

So like, the general day went a bit like this:

Caught most of Kitsch, was alright.
Steriogram. Left to catch the start of The Greenhornes.
Suddenly it all went horribly wrong.
Had to wait for Frontline to finish. they must've started late because Jean Grae was not performing, so there was an empty slot to fill during the day. Frontline was terrible. Well, they are probably good at what they do, it's just really not my thing.
The Greenhornes seemed unimpressed with Frontline, standing around waiting to die or the set to finish, whichever came quicker. Then they started playing and it was real good.
The Subways were next. They absolutely blew me away. I knew they were going to be good, they exceeded expectations. Sooo energetic.
Break thingy.
The Living End. Seen them not so long ago so I met up with some of my friends who do not reside in Christchurch.
Sleater-Kinney. They must have just started playing when I arrived. Was awesome and everything, but the night before was so much cooler and longer and pretty much the same set. I was still in awe.
The Magic Numbers. Really good, generally, there was times when the sound wasn't mixing well and things were too loud and hurting my ears. Like the melodica. Still, I enjoyed it.
The Go! Team. Man, I loved it. Totally. Apart fromt he dude squirting front row Bradley in the face with the hose. That was not cool. He also squirted the person next to me in the legs through the holes in the barrier. This wasn't terribly great either. The music however was awesome. Go! Team!
Die! Die! Die! I made a judgement call and decided I'd already missed most of KOL and went to see D!x3. To quote Andrew, "No regrets! No nana no wo woah!"
Henry Rollins. Really, him speaking is more interesting the Shihad. Made me kind of want to see Iggy & the Stooges.
Franz Ferdinand. Pretty cool. Heard what I wanted to hear, including Michael. Left to catch TMV.
The Mars Volta. Didn't start until really late. Could have seen Iggys full set instead. Saw probably 10-15 minutes of TMV. Grr.
I did catch the end of Iggy's set. Now I want to be your dog. Oh yeah.
The White Stripes. So brilliant. I made the call of hanging back and having fun with my friends instead of going into the squishy mosh pit where I'd struggle to get anywhere close to the stage anyway. It was mint. They played Death Letter, Canon, Ball and Biscuit, Hotel Yorba. Couldn't ask for much better considering it was a BDO set.

Next day I went back to Christchurch and went to Human. Natalie made me all jealous by managing to go to Die! Die! Die! at the KA. Human was good though.

Sunday Phil and I went to see The Exponents with The D4 supporting. Was cool. Good to see them, since I missed their "final concert" years ago and never saw them.

Monday. There was no bands playing. Back to the normal.

Due to stocktake, I've been starting early and finishing at 3:30. On monday I had not seen Kathleen for real ages, I ended up finally being able to sneak out to layby around 3pm and stayed until close to 4 talking crap, hanging out. I felt silly clocking out and leaving half an hour later than was needed.
