Ow. My head.

I seem to be celebrating my week off with an absurdist kick. At my friend Jared's suggestion, I bought The Legendary Marvin Pontiac, a CD by a fictitious blues singer. One of the songs is about a bunch of small farmers who take a trip in the car they made from a tin can. In another song Marvin sings the praises of a beautiful woman, but laments that she didn't make him pancakes. My favorite line from the album is "Little pieces of fur are flying across the room, confusing me." The music doesn't really qualify as blues, but it's quite good. The whole album is what I'd imagine The Magnetic Fields sounding like if they spent more time in smoky nightclubs and less time, well, wherever it is in New York City that people play ukelele music.

To increase my separation from reality, my wife showed me a few episodes from The Adventures of Pete and Pete DVDs that she got. All I knew about the show beforehand was that it was on Nickelodeon and Iggy Pop plays one of the characters. It's rather difficult to sum up what the show is like, but I can say this: The main character is in high school, and the episodes tend to be about things like who gets to be the dot in the "i" when the marching band spells out "squid". The main character's mom has a metal plate in her head that keeps picking up radio stations. And one of the characters, Artie the Strongest Man in the World, seems exactly like Craig from the CS department, but in spandex.

I can't wait to see the episodes that actually have Iggy Pop in them now.
