Wow. When I first finished watching this movie I thought I liked it, and now I really think I like it but I'm not yet sure.

It definitely fits under the category of "flawed gems". Steve Martin's narration is intrusive, and the balance of the characters' traits doesn't quite work. If you go see the movie, I can just about guarantee that at one point early on you'll think, "I can't believe that PoH recommended this."

Later on, though, the cinematography is beautiful, the songs are excellent, and I think this movie portrays relationships better than any other movie I've seen. The scenes in which the main character first falls in love reminded me what it's like to first fall in love, and the scenes in which the main character is on the verge of breaking up reminded me what it's like to be on the verge of breaking up. It also does a good job of conveying the sheer nervousness involved in touching someone for the first time.

It may also be the least formulaic romantic comedy I've ever seen, if "romantic comedy" is even the term for it. The movie doesn't tie everything up neatly, which is why I'm still thinking about it now and probably will be for the next several days.
