The problem here is that you are completely misunderstanding my usage of the word "useless."
Keep in mind that whether or not something is useful simply depends on if it is used for something. I did not say that it is the materialistic and shallow parts of life that are worth living for.
Gold is forged into jewelry, tools, doorknobs for fancy people...it plates things, trims things, etc. IT is most definately useful, even if only for silly things that aren't necessary to sustain life. Comic books have plots, dialogue, are created for a specific reason. These things would definately be in the useful category.
When i say that it is the useless things that are worth living for...I'm talking about the things that a non-human would find curious. Big fat example: Love. Holding hands. Butter sculptures. Incredibly fattening and unhealthy pastries. Toe nail polish. A tea cup made of animal fur. Belly buttons.
Many things and parts of the world are ridiculously valuable to us, but ultimately, are useless. I am not undermining them...I am worshipping them.
