[ Tony is technically ready, because Pepper came down an hour ago and manhandled him into something more presentable, forcing coffee down his neck, and basically making a fuss. So he's ready, but that doesn't mean he's not working. Tongue caught between his teeth as he slides a bit of wiring back into place on a chip, watching the whole machine in front of him finally flicker to life.
Of course, that's when JARVIS filters through the system. ] Sir, Captain Rogers is here.
[ Tony has enough time to put down his instruments, straighten himself up, and swivel his stool round, rising just as Steve comes into view.
[ When he comes in he's surprised to see Tony as presentable as he is. Which causes him to halt and sway in place before a smile grows on his face. Wow. ]
Hi. [ Breathless. He sounds breathless but he hasn't done anything to be out of breath. A cough to cover it up as his smile only grows more fond. ] Ready to go?
Yup, I - uh. [ Is he? He's completely forgotten what he was doing a minute ago. But yeah, everything's switched off, he isn't about to burn the place down.
There's a jacket hung over the back of his chair too, so he grabs it, swings it on, crossing the short distance. ] So, you gonna tell me what we're doing yet?
I want it to be a surprise. Come on. [ He gestures for Tony to follows as he turns to leave and go back upstairs with a bit of a jog. Happy is waiting by the car outside when they get to his. Steve gives him a nod and gets into the back seat.
He's excited. More excited than he should be but that's alright. He hopes Tony will enjoy it as much as he does. He really hopes Tony will enjoy it but whose to say. ]
[ Sliding into the car from the other side, tilting his head to look at Steve like that will give him any clues. Or maybe he just likes being able to watch. But then he's grinning, leaning forward in his seat to talk to Happy. ] How much do I have to increase your pay rise to get you to tell me where we're going? Captain Secret here is playing handball.
[ There was an obvious smirk on Happy's face. ] "Sorry Mister Stark, I'm afraid it doesn't work like that." [ And started driving. ]
[ Like all other trips, Steve remained relatively quiet, staring out the window and taking in all the changes to New York. Everything seems so much bigger, taller, busier. Happy seemed to manoeuvre the streets with ease before they eventually pulled up to Metropolitan Museum of Art. That was when Happy announced their destination and Steve was gaping. ]
The museum, huh? [ Tony's leaning into Steve's space a little to peer out of his window, a grin forming across his features. He actually thinks it's pretty swell. ] Are we getting out learning on?
[ He felt a little bit silly because despite the art galleries he had visited in his youth, he'd never been to something quite like the Metropolitan. His cheeks a little red, he turned back to Tony. ] No, I just thought I should share one of my passions with you. Art. From what I read, they have all sorts of historical paintings, sculptures and objects.
And more recent forms too. [ He wanted to see what he had missed. ]
You like art? [ He sounds surprised at that, but there's nothing cruel or joking in his tone. ] Okay, well, you're going to have to deal with me being completely uneducated. I mean, we have art, but Pep deals with the acquiring of it, I never know what looks good.
[ Hand on the door handle for a moment, winking. ] You may teach me, oh wise one.
[ He chuckled. ] I'm just an enthusiast. I don't know much about decorating or anything like that. [ But he does sketch. Not that he wanted to tell Tony about that yet. He had kept a small sketchbook in the pocket of his coat though. With a pencil. Just incase something stood out or inspired him.
Well... There was one things and he didn't even need to go anywhere to see it but he'd save that for late night sketches with the internet on hand so he didn't go creeping Tony out. Or--well, maybe that would creep him out more. Maybe, in a bit, he'll get up the nerve to ask but not right now. ] Shall we? [ He opened the car door and stepped out, expecting Tony to follow. ]
[ Saluting at Happy before Tony crosses the back of the car, takes his place just at Steve's side, looking up at the building. He's been here before for countless of random things, but like always around Steve, with the good Captain there's nothing like looking through it with his eyes. ] We don't decorate with it. Just ask her to show you, she'd probably die to have someone else to talk to about paintings.
Yeah? I'll have to do that then. [ His smile was pristine, open and honest as they started up the steps. There was a line up on the inside because it didn't seem to matter what time of day it was. People were always busily going about the building. Thankfully, they had set up a time slot on line so the short of the lines was the one they joined simply to confirm their arrival. With that done, they were given a map and a clear to go look at the art. ]
Uh - [ He's just going to have to go ahead and show how ignorant he is, isn't he? ] You know what, you lead, I'll follow, that good? [ Because it might be nice, just trailing Steve and listening to him talk about something he's passionate for. ] So how long have you liked art?
That's fine.[ Steve wasn't about to complain. If Tony wanted him to take the lead, he would eagerly. He quickly glanced down at the map and started forth, aiming one direction but quickly getting distracted by the rather large statues just through the main room. ] And for about... Well, for a long time. It's been a part of me for a long time, since before I changed...
Wow... [ His eyes ran up and down it, lighting up in a way that may not have been seen previous to this moment. He leaned forward to read the labelled description beside it before glancing to it again and carrying on. ] This place is huge.
Huh. [ It's quiet, storing that little bit of information away for a while. He watches Steve instead of the art, takes in just how interested he is, how it makes him look a lot younger.
Tony supposes he really is all that young in the first place. ] Are you an artist?
[ His cheeks heat up. ] It's a hobby. I mean--I sketch on occasion but never anything like this. [ He gestured to a painting ahead of them. It was so different being in the presence of historical works. Future works. Inspirational works. Captured history.
He couldn't help but fawn over each piece a little more and more. ] Do you?
Of course, that's when JARVIS filters through the system. ] Sir, Captain Rogers is here.
[ Tony has enough time to put down his instruments, straighten himself up, and swivel his stool round, rising just as Steve comes into view.
Which is - Well. He needs a moment. ] Hi.
