Personality: Riku Replica was originally created to be similar, but separate, from Riku. Though possessing an identical body and skills, he embraces the darkness that Riku shuns out of fear, wielding his powers easily. He’s very proud, blaming his inexperience when he loses his first fight with Riku rather than accepting that someone who’s afraid of his own power could possibly be stronger. Riku Replica despises the idea of being afraid of the darkness, as Riku is, and manages to carry this conviction over even through the modification of his memories.
Riku Replica loses his awareness of himself as a replica, believing himself to be the real Riku. As a result, his personality changes to be much more similar to Riku’s. He becomes less aggressive, though he’s still much more so than Riku. He doesn’t show quite as much emotion, and hides his feelings more. However, he becomes obsessed with the past, wanting nothing more than to keep the “promise” he made with Namine. He’s convinced that Namine doesn’t want to see Sora, and is willing to go to great lengths to keep the two of them apart. Like the real Riku, he’s very jealous of Sora, jealousy which manifests itself in anger. But unlike Riku, the replica has outright animosity towards Sora. Even when Namine begs him to stop and not kill Sora, he nearly follows through, and would have if she hadn’t smashed his heart.
Namine is the only one that Replica Riku trusts or believes in. To everyone else, he’s stubborn and angers easily. He’s very arrogant, even when it’s unwarranted; if someone gets him mad enough he’ll attack regardless of his chances of winning a fight. Still, he isn’t hostile to most people when he first meets them. He’s actually rather easygoing, if somewhat detached. Because of this emotional distance, entrenched in him due to being a replica even though he doesn’t know its origin, it’s very hard for him to get close to people. Riku Replica doesn’t trust people in the way that he’s willing to be vulnerable to them, but he’ll listen to other’s suggestions readily if they don’t involve putting himself out there. He carries Riku’s weakness of being easy to manipulate with the promise of power. As a replica, one of the most important things to him is being different from Riku, and this combined with the previous can make his strings very easy to pull.
Strengths:
Physical - Riku Replica is strong for a 15-year-old. With Riku’s memories, he has quite a bit of combat skill, especially sword fighting. Additionally, he has a great command over the powers of darkness granted to Riku by Xehanort’s Heartless. At a moment’s notice, he can use the power of darkness to transform into “Dark Riku” and maintain this form indefinitely, and it’s the form he seems to prefer. This is as opposed to Riku, who can neither transform entirely at will nor stay in the form for extended periods of time until much later, when he accepts the powers of darkness. Riku Replica also has a sense that gets mixed up with smell where he can sense the darkness in someone, among a couple other vaguely defined things.
Mental - He’s very strong-willed, even to the point of being led astray. He resists control the moment he realizes he’s being manipulated in a direction he doesn’t like.
Emotional - Riku Replica is fiercely loyal to those he becomes attached to. Because he’s so emotionally guarded, it’s difficult for strangers to hurt him in any serious capacity.
Weaknesses:
Physical - While strong, Riku Replica’s body is still just that of a 15-year-old. He has limits which can sometimes become painfully obvious depending on who he’s matched against.
Mental - When he has his awareness as a replica, Replica Riku has an inferiority complex towards the real Riku. He pursues his goals relentlessly, which can make him easy to manipulate.
