This is true on several different levels. Of course, if you have a life you don't have time to livejournal about it. But, less obviously, if you have a life, then anything you can talk about on livejournal is likely to involve people who will be reading it. This could be seen as being rather tasteless

1) I really like EVMS. It was the favorite of the schools I interviewed at. Lots of med schools trumpet the research credentials of their faculty and brag about how competitive their students are. EVMS brags about their clinical education and how cooperative their students are. There's a real community spirit, a sense that all of the students rise or fall together. Community service and volunteer work are a core part of the student experience here. The school is an ideal environment for someone who's interested in clinical medicine and primary care. It's definitely tilted to the "physician" side of "physician-scientists."
That said, there have been some acreditation issues- we're up for review later this year, and we expect to pass with flying colors. (It was mostly irrelevant issues, I think, not relating to curriculum. The school was having some money problems.) And I've had some classes that were pretty radically bad- though I don't know that they're any worse than any other med school. Power point is sort of the staple of teaching at this level. So there's that.
2) Worth the price? *Nothing* is worth this sort of price. I'm out of state and doing it all in loans, and that will be a major stress in my life for many years to come. If I had gotten into my state school, I would have gone there. I'd have probably been much less happy with the school, perhaps more happy with the environment, and a lot happier with the bill. Does it balance out? I don't know. Money aside, I'd much rather be at EVMS.
3) I'm not a big fan of Norfolk. I don't know where you are (your info doesn't say, or give me an email address where I can contact you directly) but I was in the Washington DC area before I moved here. Norfolk pales in comparison. It lacks both big-city advantage and small-town charm. Norfolk is very conservative (poor, southern, military) though the school is not. But location is really not something EVMS has to recommend it.
I hope that helps! If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at persipone@gmail.com.
