It's not a silly question at all. And it really depends where you hang out. The corners of LJ which I frequent are occupied by mostly ardent Martha fans. But the non-LJ areas of the net that I frequent tend to be occupied by a lot of people who think Rose is the best thing since sliced bread and the "Ultimate Companion" in the whole of the Whoniver EVAH !

A lot of those fans also worship the ground that RTD walks on and can see nothing wrong with any of RTD's plots, themes, subtexts or characterisations - which can occasionally be something of a shock to me. Attempting to point out RTD's flaws gets me verbal abuse of varying degrees of nastiness - as does trying to point out why Rose isn't actually the most wonderful Companion ever. Which tends to mean I keep quiet unless really provoked into a comment as I prefer an abuse free life !

Amongst the non-fans who are watchers of Who (ie those who aren't into fandom and are known as "casual viewers"), I know people who think Rose is wonderful, some who think she's OK and some who love Martha.

I tend to stay away from those corners of LJ where Rose is worshipped.

I can understand how people may believe that Rose is/was great, I really liked her in S1, after all. But S2? Nope. And after seeing S3 with Martha? Rose pales in comparison. But still, I can respect all the Rose love. I can't really say the same for RTD though, I've seen him on a few TW Declassifieds and some of the DW ones (I can't remember the name for it right now) and he just rubs me the wrong way sometimes. I'll shut up now before I get virtually kicked in the arse by someone out there, the internet is a brutal place :p

Actually you're pretty safe to say what you like on my LJ - not many of my FList are RTD supporters and anyone who's not on my FList will get their comments screened before I post them, so if they were rude to you, I'd delete the comment...

DW Confidentials, they're called. I confess I've yet to watch many of them (I only watched the "Smith and Jones" one and the one DT himself did for Blink when they aired) and although the "Confidential Cutdowns" are on the boxset, I've yet to watch them (way too busy writing !)

Ah, there you go! I used to ignore the Confidentials 'coz I just didn't feel the need to know what happens behind the scenes but I've been suffering from withdrawals so I got into them :) I've been grabbing all the S2 Declassifieds though, and RTD's always blabbering on about how awesome he is, lol. I think what irked me most was his comment on Tosh being a strong woman so he wants to stay away from her. I'm probably misquoting him but I'll check again, but that really showed me how off he can get..

I'm feeling rather relieved I've not bothered listening to / watching the Declassifieds, then !

MARTHA is a strong woman - idiot man !

These people really need to watch the classic series from 1973 to 1976 (series 11 - 14) and series 3 of New Who in great detail.

Yes they do - but it'd be a waste of time to suggest it because they prefer to live in their own happy bubble...

I got abuse again today for defending my right not to worship RTD on the grounds that I have issues with his characterisation of people of colour. The "he's the first person to give the Doctor a coloured Companion therefore he can't be racist" argument is really feeble.

I've got issues with him because at times he honestly seems as if he lives in a dream world as far as some of his scripts go. They verge on madness.
