Sarah Jane Adventures - Episodes 1 - 6 Reaction

Oct 28, 2007 19:10

So I finally got to watch all 6 of the SJA episodes so far aired (with many, many thanks for the kindness of some folks on a Comm who made them available !)

My random thoughts are under the cut

I wasn't so fond of the first two eps - the Slitheen are always so over the top but the Slitheen child was SERIOUSLY unnerving !! Loved the reference to the Brig.

I liked Eye of the Gorgon - apart from the bizarre "Serve the Gorgon" chant... I loved the refs to Sontarans and Phyllida Law was BEYOND awesome as Bea Nelson Stanley... I nearly died when I saw her on screen the first time - it's fab that SJA is getting actresses of her calibre for the show, as DW gets actors of Sir Derek Jacobi's calibre...

The Warriors of Kudlak was also good - Mr Grantham was really creepy and I loved Maria taking him down (literally)... I liked the fact that Kudlak longed for peace - and that Sarah Jane didn't condemn him once she knew he'd been fooled by the Mistress.

Overall:

I'm falling in love with SJS more than a little and am now LONGING to see the new duo of (Sarah Jane) Smith and (Martha) Jones fighting aliens together 'cos they'd be awesome and YOU KNOW IT (and they'd TOTALLY kick Ten's ass as well !)

I loved her mad science gadget building session and her squee when the machine worked was so very Ten-ish I laughed so much I cried...

Maria is good - I love the relationship that she and SJS are developing - that's it's a mixture of joy and tears (Maria's comments about wishing she'd never met SJS were so realistic). I loved the way she and SJS worked together to find Clyde and Luke.

Luke is a nice mixture of precocious and naive.

Am I alone in wanting more backstory for Clyde ? We really don't know enough about this boy and I'm worried they're going to turn him into another Mickey Smith, or another Martha Jones, ie. another unrecognised non-white character and I really, REALLY do NOT want to see that...
