Children of Earth episode 5 - reaction post

It's taken me all day to get around to writing this just because I didn't know where to start in processing it. Not sure I do even now, but maybe this will help me process it.

As usual, these are bullet points of my notes taken as the episode aired.

- Green's speech sounds very reminiscent of Saxon's at the start of 'Sound of Drums'.

- Dekker 'stood back' did he? I'm still not sure I'd trust him as far as I can throw him!

- Colonel Oduya looks pretty uneasy about approaching the 456 and who can blame him?

- Frobisher does have a point about Torchwood not being players. OMG! Jack AGREES! That's it - we're all doomed...

- So Lois is in police custody. Poor girl.

- Jack can't look at Gwen because he feels too much guilt?

- Green tells Frobisher his kids will be innoculated - and Frobisher's a bit slow to catch on. Green's an utter bastard. I hate him!

- Green's not sorry at all. Bastard!

- Requisition 31? I'm betting that's a gun. He's going to go for killing his family and then committing suicide, isn't he?

- Oh! Frobisher kissed Spears on the cheek when she gave him Requisition 31! It's definitely a gun.

- Why is Spears giving Lois a speech about what a good man Frobisher is? Hmm, I suspect there's more going on than we're being shown here...

- Ianto's brother-in-law is a bloody hero! And so's Andy!

- That Assassin Lady's NOT to be messed with...

- Gwen's 'speech' about the Doctor turning away from Earth in shame is quite thought-provoking. But it's true that sometimes humans are the monsters.

- Those kids who are being rounded up are awfully well behaved...

- OMG! Jack's sacrificing his own grandson? Alice will NEVER forgive him. Will he forgive himself? And excuse me while I wonder (a) how do the Beeb think they're going to get away with showing such a graphic death of a child, post-watershed or not? (b) WHY the signal to get rid of the 456 had to be focused through just one child when the signal *from* the 456 came through every child?

Shit! That scene just sucks so much! The poor kid's given no word of explanation or comfort from 'Uncle' Jack, plus he can SEE his poor mother crying and screaming where she's locked outside the room, and that is just wrongwrongwrong!

- Even the Assassin Lady's crying! She does have a heart after all...

- Green is a bastard. I may have mentioned that once or twice.

- Oh yes! Well done Spears, you tell him! I said there was more going on in that conversation between Lois and Spears...

- And Denise grew a backbone! Wow!

- It's no surprise Alice looks at Jack and then walks away without speaking to him.

- Six months later, and Jack's running away for good. Guess that's the end of Torchwood then.

Basically, Chris Bidmead was right in saying that RTD is a first draft writer. That final episode was made of so much fail. DAMN!

RTD had better pack a tin hat and a flak jacket when he goes to Comic Con 'cos the fans are going to tear him to shreds.
