I'm a bit more excited or at least intrigued about the choice of companion compared to the Matt Smith news. I'm glad that they picked a relative unknown so Moffat will be starting with a fresh slate for both Doctor and companion. It helps a bit that she was in a Doctor Who episode already, but we'll see how she plays in a more prominent role as companion.

What difference does it make that she's already been in an episode?

I suppose it doesn't make that much of a difference since it was a small role.

And a different character. Makes no more odds than Freema having been in 2 eps in S2, I'd say.
