I doubt that "Rose Two" can be expected from Moffat when it was Moffat who said of Journey's End that it was a clever way to get rid of the clingy girlfriend. On the other hand, I'm the one who said that, now one showrunner's done it, others'll want to try it their way. So who knows?
However I'm a little dismayed that all the comments I'm seeing reacting to the news are certainty that either the commenter's worst expectations or best expecations are going to be filled, when we don't even know what the character's name is yet.

I very much doubt we'll ever get male companions. The production team seem to feel that the female viewers won't watch it without a female companion with whom they can identify...

Well there's always that possibility, I suppose - that they think the guys won't watch without a girl to ogle.

I'm not judging it. I'm just not excited about it. But I've not been excited about DW since the end of S4 - and I wasn't even that excited about S4 thanks to RTD!

Exactly what I've been saying since it aired - he could easily have used the chameleon arch on Donna to extract the Time Lordiness out of her head. EASILY!!

That's something I didn't consider, and is actually pretty interesting. But then, wouldn't it have, along with rewriting her biology, obscured her identity from her own awareness as well, like it did when the Master and Doctor used it on themselves? I don't think the solution would've been so simple.

Not necessarily. After all, we're not told *how* the Chameleon Arch works - just that it turns both the Doctor and the Master human by rewriting their biology and removing their TL essence. But there's nothing to say it couldn't be modified so that Donna remains human and just has the Doctor's TL essence removed. I mean, it's SF for goodness' sakes - RTD could handwave it easily - but he was too bloody lazy.
