Alt-Martha/Human-Doctor
First Meeting
He sees her in the street and his heart stutters.
She hears a sudden gasp of mingled pain and shock.
She finds a skinny man clutching his chest in fright.
Later, her lips are just as soft as he remembered,
though he and she are different people this time around.
His Doctor
He sleeps badly, missing the soothing hum of the TARDIS.
He drifts through unstructured days, weary and wary of others.
One day, crossing the street, a cyclist sends him flying.
He lies unconscious until a new doctor arrives beside him.
Her soft voice reaches through his darkness. He awakes confused.
Sees a familiar face, somehow older, yet no less welcome.
She mends his broken frame, pieces together his hurt heart.
She soothes his loneliness and longing, yet is lonely herself.
Love blossoms slowly (he's scared of hurting or losing her).
Together they find necessary healing and a kind of peace.
Meeting in the snow
He's taken to trekking across the world to avoid boredom.
(And Rose's accusing stares: he's not the man she thought.)
He's in shirtsleeves, in New England, building a whimsical snowman
A familiar voice hails him. Later they make snow angels.
Later still he buys her an ice-cream sundae. He's mad,
She thinks, although his brown eyes beguile her into talking.
When she returns to England after visiting her big sister,
He tags along, boredom and wanderlust banished by Martha Jones:
Companion, friend, Doctor, fellow builder of snowmen. Lover one day?
He doesn't know. It's too early. But he'll find out.
Smith and Jones: Redux
He searches for her: casually at first, then more frantically.
Neither Donna nor Sarah Jane survived the machinations of Lumic.
He fears to find her name on a memorial somewhere.
She is walking down the street: a blue-suited man appears.
Startled, she eyes him warily as he offers her flowers.
Shyly he smiles, brown eyes speaking more than faltering tongue.
He continues to bring her flowers, never speaking, always smiling.
After a week she can subdue her curiosity no longer.
They start with coffee, then lunches, then dinners. Conversations flow.
Aliens arrive. They fight. They survive. Afterwards they make love.

Our-Martha/Human Doctor
Towing home the TARDIS
Jack notices first (of course), then Donna spots the signs.
Rose dismisses the idea as soon as it has occurred.
Sarah Jane is concerned, Mickey amused. Jackie averts her eyes.
The Doctor (not as oblivious as he pretends) watches sideways.
Only Martha seems not to see that Handy's staring, aroused.
Desire catching him by surprise when he looks at Martha.
After towing home the TARDIS
He stays with Martha after the Doctor takes Donna home.
He's shy and nervous, she seems unaware until after dinner.
Then she kisses him in the kitchen. He blushes deeply.
They retire to bed. The air fills with soft moans.
The next day she returns her engagement ring to Tom.
A Reunion
Three months after Davros, the TARDIS materialises in Martha's kitchen.
The Doctor steps out, his clone, nervous, at his side.
When the TARDIS leaves that night, her pilot's flying solo.
John and the Doctor fight all the time, so alike,
Yet so different. Martha agrees to help John become Earth-bound.
He's practically a genius, yet as helpless as a child
When it comes to practical matters, forgetting food or showers
Unless he's reminded. Sometimes he drives her mad. But sometimes -
She knows that she's all he's got. Abandonment isn't pretty.
However long it takes him, she'll be there for him.
She's his rock. He tries not to be her millstone.
