Yeah, I was not a fan of this story. It was sloppily told with frustrating behavior from Sarah Jane. And all the pop cultural references in the first half were disorienting, since SJA has never been the kind of show of that does that.
On the other hand, it did give us Clyde's "I don't know. With its - boxy . . . goodness?" Which was very Buffy-esque, but still funny. I really, really love Clyde this series. He's been great.

Seriously poorly written...

- and amused to discover that Luke now knows enough about clothes/fashion to comment on SJS' pink skirt suit.
YES! I laughed at that.
It did bother me that Sarah Jane was so OOC. (I've done a mini-sort-of-rant in my journal) I agree with almost everything you said (except I love School Reunion).
Am I the only one coming out of this desperatly trying not to ship Clyde/Rani but failing tragically?

There are parts of SR that I love to bits, and parts that make me want to throttle Toby Whitehouse (Well RTD, actually, 'cos I've no doubt the bits I most hate are the ones he tinkered with!)

Erm, I'm not actively shipping them, but I can see the shippiness inherent in their relationship, but then I can see the same in Luke/Rani so threesome time, I think (when they're all legal!)
SR was my introduction to Sarah Jane, so it holds a special place in my heart (like the Sontarans in Time Warrior do). Which bits annoy you?
I didn't see the shippiness in their relationship till now. (I don't feel so bad about shipping them because both actors are of age, even if the characters arn't).

Ah - I started watching DW with SJS and Four, so I found it very annoying that Sarah Jane had that ridiculous conversation with Rose where they were trying to one up each other over what they'd seen. It was just so lame it made me want to spit! I also thought that it made her more pathetic than necessary over missing the Doctor. I totally get that she missed him and all the amazing things they'd seen and done together, and that she found it hard to adjust to life back on Earth, but it was 30 years ago FFS! She should definitely have been adjusted by the time of seeing Ten!

I think it made sense to me because it took her completely by surprise. They've sort of been building this season to "Sarah Jane has unresolved angst about her parents!" and then suddenly WHAM she's in her hometown and her parents are just over the hill. And she did believe she was going back to a month before the thing happened with no intention to do anything but look, and then all of a sudden she was faced with this choice. Also I can easily imagine that any repressed pain about her parents would have become more painful lately after becoming a mother herself. (And the "Why can't I ever be happy, why can't it ever be me?" is a classic Hero's Speech when faced with this kind of situation--it's never reflective of characters' real beliefs, it's a sign that they're rationalizing their desires, looking for an excuse

And it wasn't the wrong colour, but it was the wrong size and shape (not tall enough and too fat)

YES. BY FAR.
The Trickster's brilliant, I love the idea of him appearing on Doctor Who itself, but this story is not allowed to exist.
