Charley always seemed terribly upper class to me. Just, well, slumming it. I think it's how she calls her mother Mama with the emphasis on the second syllable.

(Also--and this might be because I listened to the first Gallifrey series before the Eighth Doctor audios--the Pollards always rather seemed to me to be modeled after the Mitford sisters. Cissy is definitely Unity Mitford, anyhow.)

Maybe I don't really notice Charley's upper class because I'm British?

Ah thanks - Unity Mitford was who I was trying to think of last night, and completely failing to recall 'cos I was too tired.

Maybe, yeah. Well, that and it's not all that blatant until later in the Eighth Doctor audios where her mum gets named as Lady Louisa and such. (Also, well, I'm a fan of Jeeves & Wooster and Charley rather struck me as a younger version of one of the more adventurous girls from that and they're all posh so the Charley = posh equation came about early in my head.)

Ah - I don't think I've reached those audios yet... (Trying to remember whether Charley's mother is named in "Chimes of Midnight" - and I don't think she was...)

*nods* I don't think Lady Louisa gets named until maybe Zagreus. Though my third Eight audio--which was the first one I really listened closely to, the other two being ones I just had playing while I did other stuff--was Seasons of Fear and while they never got too into specifics, that was the one where I was all 'huh, Charley's really posh, isn't she?' (I listened to Eight's early audios completely out of order, I'm afraid, though starting from Neverland I started doing them the right way.)

Ah - I think Seasons is the next Eight&Charley audio for me - although I need to check before I listen again. I've listened to Caerdroia out of order (I listened to that after Minuet) - but that was the only one where I skipped ahead.
