Veritably, I'm very voracious

*gasp* an update!

Saw V for Vendetta last night. I don't see everyone going crazy over the thing on my flist today, so perhaps I'm the only one. Seriously, though, many of you will find ol' V quite the sexy thing despite (or even because of) the Guy Fawkes mask.

That mask was amazing. It was the same throughout the movie but it changed I swear... The way Hugo Weaving held his head, or adjusted his stance, or the way the light fell on it made the emotion of the character come through plain as day. It was quite a beautiful thing.

But more seriously, the movie got me to thinking quite a lot. I've never been hugely pacifist or angry at the government for privacy invasions or anything like that. I don't mind a slightly longer wait at the airport to go through extra security screening (even though I feel it's probably just for show and not truly effective) and I don't mind some cameras on the streets to help catch known criminals. I'm a regular citizen with nothing to hide and I like to feel a bit more protected from the bad guys out there.

But this movie definitely took that further and showed how government protection can go to the extreme. The movie had a Big Brother type feel in it, yes, but the government was not hated by all the people really. They chose it because bad things had happened in the world and they wanted to feel protected. And they gave up an awful lot to do so. The movie of course asks whether that is worth it, and it certainlt struck a chord with me. Why have the government prtect your life when your life isn't the one you would have chosen to live in the first place?

And of course, the main character blurs the line of "good and evil" quite nicely. Is he a terrorist or a freedom fighter? Depends. His actions were understandable, but do you approve? Hmmm... well, I recommend the movie highly. I found it entertaining and thought-provoking, though not too difficult for a sleepy girl to follow hours past her bedtime. ;)

All is well here. I just haven't had much time for Harry Potter fandoming lately. I've been irregularly keeping up with a few of my favorite fics I've been reading: Utter Rubbish, Time of Storms, and Ruled by the Moon. I also perdiodically do a look over my flist and read most everything--eventually! I hope all of you are well! *hugs*
