Have you ever felt a nameless yearning for some kind of connection with somebody but you're not sure who or what kind? Okay, granted, I just read Gregory Maguire's Lost straight through (interpreting at the hospital on Saturdays is kinda slow), and his literary style might be creeping into my thoughts, and it was about a middle-aged depressed author whose head was full of all sorts of strange things, plus there was a ghost, and maybe that's where it's coming from. But still, it's the kind of yearning (and only yearning can describe it ~ as far as I can tell, there's no other word that works quite so well) that makes me think of calling people I have no business calling, just to hear them talking. Strange, yes. Reading books all in one sitting has a strange effect on the mind, especially when the artistry of the written word is as much the point as the story.
