So my manager just gave me her unsolicited religious right opinion on Katrina. I’m just walking to work, glad that someone is coming to fix my windshield today, and she jumps in with the conversation she had with her husband last night.
She proceeds to tell me that all the hurricanes have nothing to do with global warming it was all predicted in the Bible. Her evidence of this is that hit New Orleans with all those people “who don’t help themselves” so apparently deserve some kind of punishment. I started out with a weird kind of laugh and tried to move the conversation back to global warming, then I just raised my eye brows and moved over to the fax machine like there was something really important I needed over there.
Who throws this kind of shit at you at 8a.m.? The more I sit and think about it the angrier I get. I’m convinced she got this from some religious right talking head trying to cover their ass for not helping in NOLA time of need. I may not be a biblical scholar but I would really like to see the passage that says poor people should be devastated by natural disasters and then left to fend for them selves. To make it worse no I am pissed off at myself that I didn't saysomething to her, correct her in some way. I like to think if I had had time to finish my mocha I would have been stronger but that could just be some kind of mental justification. I hate this job….
