Thursday was a catch-up-with-Northern Virginia-friends day. I had lunch with Deborah T in Alexandria, coffee with Deb D in Springfield, and dinner with Angie in Burke.
Today was pretty mellow -- met up with my friend Monica for lunch and did some small amount of window shopping with her. Then straightened up a bit around the house, napped, and then Jean and Mark and Melissa came over to watch movies and ring in the new year. We watched Easy A, which was wildly improbable but very entertaining, and The Expendables which was mediocre but kinda funny - and with a most impressive cadre of action stars: Bruce Willis and Ahnold make cameos. Sylvester Stallone leads a "good guy" gang of Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolf Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, and a couple dudes I didn't recognize, facing off against Eric Roberts supported by Stone-Cold Steve Austin. Plot was even more wildly improbable and absurdly violent, with plot holes the size of Canada. Still, mindlessly entertaining.
