Dad got here Sunday afternoon. We didn't do much that evening, as it was a long trip east. Monday was also pretty chill, with a walk, delivery pizza, and a DVD as the featured highlights, but it was very nice to mellow out. Today was more energetic -- we went to the Downtown Holiday Festival in DC, which was pretty sadly small. Then we went and explored the Norman Rockwell exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and some of the National Portrait Gallery. Then I sent Dad off to the Natural History Museum while I had a snack with Erin, who is briefly in town from Macedonia. Then we headed off to check out the free christmas concert in the lobby of the Willard Hotel (a very posh, expensive, and old hotel right next to the White House), which was lovely and had great people watching. We headed homewards, stopping at the neighborhood Scottish pub for dinner. When we got there, a little three piece band (keyboard, trumpet, drums) was playing. They were okay but their sound was way too loud for the space. BUT at the end of the set, the local folk singing group (most of whom were decked out in Victorian or steampunk attire) took over for their monthly pub sing, with resounding sing-along christmas carols, which was great fun.
