we are seen as a western country too. i believe that Australia has donated as much as they have, perhaps because it is so close to home. however that being so, i don't believe the rest of the world feel as though they can escape that just because they are that little bit further away. school being out has no bearing on how much money has been given; everyone here is on their summer holidays too, with no school projects contributing to this. we too have donated supplies and have sent aid over as well as all the money. the report i heard about the 250 million donated by americans specifically mentioned that it was governments and citizens combined.

personally, i think i'm just annoyed at the fact that our entire nations population equals that of new york, and so knowing how much more COULD be given in comparison to what HAS been given, is a bit disenchanting.

last night there was a 'relief' concert held. we have 3 commercial tv stations that broadcast nationally who combined so that it was showed on all 3 networks simultaneously. it was also broadcast on every single FM radio station. as well as the concert, i suppose it could have been classes as a telethon as well. a young boy rang up and donated all his christmas money because he felt as though people over there needed it more. i just want every single person in the world to show the same compassion a 10 year old child can.
