Richmond meets Vector at the front door of Reynholm Industries at midday. He smiles softly as she enters. 'Oh but she looks nervous', he thinks as he steps forward and holds out his hand in greeting. "Vector. I am so pleased you came." He lowers his head to catch her eye, because she is shyly staring at her feet.
Vector takes Richmond's hand and looks up at him through her fringe. "It's nice to finally meet you in person," she blushes a little under his gaze. "I really hope this okay, me shooting in the office I mean. I don't want to cause any trouble for you." She bites her lip and looks down again.
Cocking his head to one side, his smile widens. "It is perfectly fine. As I said previously, my work mates don't even acknowledge my presence most times. It seems you are similar to me. I doubt they would notice your presence either." He holds out his arm for her to take and nods his head. "Shall we?"
Vector can't help but grin back him, "Yes, let's." Linking her arm around his, she can feel her nervousness ebb away slowly. She chances a quick look at him, only to find him already gazing at her. "I'm going to be brave and say you have a very beautiful face. I wouldn't exactly hate doing a shoot with you sometime either," she gestures to the camera hanging from her neck.
The flush in Richmond’s cheeks is thankfully hidden by his make-up. He clears his throat, and turns away from her face, his shyness rearing its head. He leads her to the lift in silence and gingerly presses the down button. He chances a side long glance at Vector, "I must warn you, the IT department is in the basement of the building. It is somewhat dangerous down there. I wonder why no one has complained of code violations."
The lift opens and they step inside. Richmond presses the buzzing grotty basement button and they proceed to descend.
"It shouldn't be anything I can't handle. Mama and I had to rough it a bit when we were away, there were more than a few horror hotels." The door opens and Vector immediately regrets her words.
Her eyes widen at the sight before her, she can barely see three feet in front of her from all the clutter of old computers and office furniture. She looks back up at Richmond and offers an unconvincing smile, "Cosy." Just as she's about to step out of the lift, a rat runs past the opening and Vector lets out a scream, latching onto Richmond's arm again.
Chuckling lightly Richmond wraps a gentle hand around her waist to steady her. "Pay no mind to the rats. They are quite friendly once you get to know them. At times I think they are my only true friends in the building." He looks into the distance as if surveying something far off. Vector goes to look too but sees nothing and quirks her head in confusion.
Richmond shakes himself back to the present and leads her to the IT department. They stroll through the door and past a man with curly hair and glasses. "That is Maurice. I think he's playing some online war game. He'll be in his own world for a while I believe." Continuing on he walks past an empty desk towards a rather old and worn looking red door.
He leads her inside a smaller room. It's much cooler in here and there's little light, except for the brilliant red flashes that Vector sees immediately. She smiles at Richmond, "I knew this was a brilliant idea. I can tell already that the red will make for an interesting development."
Removing the camera from around her neck she wastes no time in adjusting the settings, wanting to ensure the bright lights show up clearly. She brushes past Richmond and involuntarily shivers at the touch. "Er, it's a bit cold in here, isn't it?"
"Mmmm, Quite. Those vents there, they keep these things cool." He turns toward the lights to point out a certain set. "See these ones here. They have a pattern of sorts. Flash, flash, flash, then... wait for it. Nothing for awhile. Here it comes. Double flash!" He smiles as he watches them continue to flash.
She giggles at the sight of seeing Richmond's excitement, feeling more at ease around him by the minute. "It is a lovely pattern of flashes, I’ll have to try and get the double flash on camera." Richmond nods his head in favour of this idea.
Vector turns back to the wall of lights and familiarises herself with the sequence of flashes. She starts clicking away, expertly capturing each new dancing light. "This shouldn't take too long," she glances back over to Richmond who's staring intently, either at herself or lights, she's not sure. "Once I've got a few decent shots, we can start lunch."
Folding his arms he watches her animatedly click away with her camera. Richmond likes that these things seem to please her. As Vector continues to move about, getting all the angles of the lights, he removes his coat and places it on one of the chairs in the room. "They are very beautiful." He muses softly as he resumes his observation of her.
Again, Vector finds herself blushing, silently thanking the darkness of the room. Acutely aware of Richmond's eyes following her every move, she finds it harder to keep a clear head and focus on the lights. She straightens back up with a satisfying sigh, "There. All done."
Richmond remains quiet but steps forward smiling slightly, and it makes Vector's heart race. She sets her camera down on the chair with trembling hands and wraps her arms around herself.
Noticing her shudder, his brow furrows. "Are you cold? Would you like my coat?" He reaches for his coat and swiftly moves behind her to place it around her tiny shoulders. Richmond walks around to face her once more and gently adjusts the collar around her neck. "There. I hope that relieves your chill."
"Thank you, you're too kind. Already feeling a bit warmer." She pulls the collar closer, to take in the unfamiliar smell as discreetly as she can, though she's sure Richmond noticed. "So I brought cucumber sandwiches and cupcakes." She rifles through her bag to reveal the tiny cakes, decorated with varying shades of red icing and swirly black detailing. "I tried to make the cupcakes a little less cheerful. I hope they're to your liking."
He looks to the miniature cupcakes and then to Vector’s excited face. "They're exquisite." Richmond says with a small half smile quirking his lip. He gestures towards the chairs, "We can sit there or on the floor. Which ever you'd rather." he looks to her for preference.
Boldly gripping Richmond's hand, she pulls them both to sit down on the floor and arranges the food out in neat little sections. She nibbles on the sandwich triangles absently as she watches him from the corner of her eye.
"So apart from mentally cataloguing the erratic behaviour of these lights, what else do you do here? Can't be much fun, especially if your co-workers don't take notice of you." She angles herself towards him and shifts a bit closer so their arms are just touching.
Richmond's eye brow raises as her arm brushes his, but he doesn't move to remove the contact. "I don't really know." he muses. "I really do just watch these lights. Sometimes if things are slow I read Heat." He retrieves one of the little cupcakes and licks a bit of the icing off with his tongue. "Mmmm. These are delectable."
Vector ducks her head, "Why thank you, I'm pleased you like them." She reaches over for a cupcake and picks at the icing with her fingers. "I've got a sweet tooth, but Mama can't eat a lot of this sugary goodness so it usually goes to waste."
They sit in silence for a few minutes, the constant thrumming of the fans the only noise. Vector is beginning to notice she doesn't feel as nervous around him anymore and can't help but grin to herself.
He notices her beaming and gives her a grin in return. "Your skull is quite beautiful when you smile." Finishing his cupcake he picks up one of the sandwiches and takes a bite. "Oh dear. I seem to have eaten my dessert before my sandwich."
Vector covers her mouth as she laughs quietly, "It's quite alright Richmond. I think typical eating etiquette can be ignored amongst friends." She bites her lip and looks down at her lap, "Though you'll have to stop complimenting me if you want me to stop blushing."
"You needn't worry on your culinary skills or your loveliness." he states in a soft tone. He turns to face her and gently brushes his fingertips across the top of her hand. "Your girlfriend is quite lucky to have you."
Her breath hitches at the sudden contact but she doesn't shy away. "I'm nothing that special to marvel over." She fiddles with one of the buttons on Richmond's shirt with shaky fingers and his lips slowly stretch into a smile to match hers. "I'm afraid I don't quite share the passion you have for shape of skulls but I must say that yours is rather beautiful as well."
He lowers his head, silky black tresses masking his face from view. Reaching out he stills her nervous fingers. "Thank you." he says simply.
He shifts slightly and pulls his pocket watch free to check the time. "I'm due in a meeting in ten minutes. I don't understand why they even need me there. I really do hate to cut this short." He gently squeezes her fingers still clasped in his hand.
"May we do this again sometime? Possibly with your lovely girlfriend." Standing swiftly, he keeps hold of the hand still in his grasp to help her to stand as well.
"Of course, I'd like that very much and I think she'd like you as well." Vector regretfully lets go of his hand and slips his coat off, the cold air already making her shiver. "I can walk myself out, wouldn't want to keep you away from your work." she states turned away from him as she gathers her belongings.
"I had a really lovely time, thanks again for letting me shoot in here. I really appreciate it Richmond." She stands on her tip of her toes to place a kiss on his soft cheek.
Heat rises up Richmond’s neck as he flushes at her gentle kiss. He reaches out and takes her hand once again, raising it to his lips and placing four little kisses on each of her knuckles. "It was my pleasure."
He releases her hand once again but instead of letting go completely he trails his fingers up her arm, across her shoulder and up her thin neck. Reaching her cheek, he lightly brushes the pad of his thumb across the ridge of bone. "Your skull really is lovely."
Richmond removes his hand from her face and walks towards the door, opening it for her. He smiles, nods and gestures in a gentlemanly manner.
She tries to steady her breath, feeling a pleasant tingle move across her skin where Richmond's fingers travelled. Stepping out of the room, she looks back over her shoulder, "We should do dinner. Let me know when you're free."
Before Richmond can answer she turns back around and heads out through the open doorway.
