Character name: Bardock Original canon: Dragonball Target canon: Fullmetal Alchemist
Updated AU background: While he had died, fate had more in store for the Saiyan warrior than he had previously believed. King Enma called him from his afterlife to grant him a second chance at life with his original body, a chance that Bardock was all too willing to jump at. Unfortunately, what he hadn't known until it happened, was that King Enma had planned to send him to the alchemists' world through the Gate itself, to which there was a connection through one of King Enma's desk drawers (one of the others leading to Hell).
Finding himself in an unknown place, Bardock realized he could start his life anew, escaping from the deeds he'd done in the past; however, it pained him to know that he would not have his friends by his side. At first, he garnered strange looks--he was dressed outlandishly, in his broken armor and tattered pants, compared to the Armestrians, who wore at the very least a sleeveless shirt and pants. However, he had no money, and no home, so for now, all he could do was wander and try to find himself a job.
Instead, what he found was Alchemy, which piqued his interest strongly. He studied it for hours on end, taking in what knowledge he could from his studies and applying it, and soon he decided to use alchemy to earn money--mostly minor jobs like repairs and street performances--until he could afford some decent clothing. After a while, he heard about the State Alchemist program offered by the Armestrian military; being a former mercenary, military things piqued his interest still.
He took the State Alchemy exam; his written exam score was adequate enough to pass but still rather abysmal, the psychological exam deemed him competent enough to serve in the Armestrian Military, and he passed the practical examination with ease. Upon his acceptance into the program, he was given the title of the "Steel Will Alchemist" in honor of his steely resolve and his aptitude for alchemy involving metal. He taps into his skills using the transmutation circles he carved into his fingerless wristguards.
Upon returning home, he finally arrived at Briggs Fortress, the location to which he had been assigned by the Fuhrer himself. Shortly upon arrival, he had a vision of a large man bursting from beneath the ground, but had no idea of its meaning, so he told no one. While at Briggs, he was promptly put to work by Major General Olivier Armstrong, who mistrusted him strongly and considered him weak up until he was training with the unit. During one of these training sessions, Bardock had yet another vision--a falling icicle, followed by the sound of a scream. When Sloth invaded the fortress by accident, he was one of the first to offer to fight, but Olivier gave him orders to stay back; it wasn't until after the fighting began that he found out why--bullets didn't work on him--nor would his own ki blasts. During the fight, it was his and Second Lieutenant Falman's jobs to distract Sloth so that Edward and Alphonse could help push him over the edge and out of the fortress.
However, during the fighting, one of the large icicles had come down, impaling his left arm. As quickly as possible, his wounds were tended to; unfortunately, this included an amputation of the impaled arm that had been beyond repair for several reasons, most notably that some of the tissue had been damaged from the cold. Alongside Winry Rockbell, he was sent to Resembool. While there, he opted to have the Rockbells fit him for an automail arm rather than a simple prosthetic arm. Like Edward, he never shed a single tear during the procedure to have his automail arm attached, let alone made any noise--he had been completely stoic the whole time. Upon recovery from the procedure, he received orders to return to Briggs fortress, and boarded the train for Briggs.
Re: AU Update App: Bardock (Fullmetal Alchemist AU) Part 2soothsaiyajinJanuary 11 2010, 01:01:52 UTC
Powers: Alchemic Modification of Automail -- Bardock is able to use his alchemy to modify his automail arm. These modifications include transforming it to a blade form (inspired by his observations of Edward Elric), a gun form, and a shield form.
Personality: Bardock has retained his love of fighting--it is something so ingrained in his nature that it is one of the few things that could never change. In addition, he has kept his laid-back nature for the most part; now he sees it as living for the moment after a second brush with death.
What has changed, however, is his outlook on life. Whereas he once saw it as an endless string of ennui and boredom, he now realizes that he should live for the simpler things in life. His values have shifted stronger now; wealth is still one of the things that he values the least, life is one of the things he has learned to value most after his second brush with death that resulted in the loss of his arm.
Possessions: In addition to what he brought last time (Within his old-fashioned second-hand suitcase, he keeps a couple extra changes of civilian clothing, his State Alchemist uniform, his State Alchemist pocketwatch, a journal and pen, an alchemy book, and thin wireframe glasses that he occasionally wears as a replacement for his scouter, as well as a way to see small objects or small print.), Bardock is bringing a few more things: a glasses chain (which he keeps attached to his glasses), a screwdriver (to make minor repairs to his automail), a wrench (also to make minor repairs to his automail), and a chess set (given to him by Pinako Rockbell).
Sample post: I still can't believe it. Steel on the Steel Will Alchemist? Who'd have thought of it? I guess that's what that vision was telling me--that I'd lose my arm.
[Steely black eyes admire the automail.]
I'm surprised this stuff hasn't been busted up yet with all my training and the like. And yet I wouldn't have it any other way. I have to hand it to those Rockbells. They sure know how to build this stuff durable.
[Dark eyes now glance to the paper he is holding.]
And after I thought I'd never go back to Hell-Frozen-Over-Briggs, I have to go back there again? That's just wonderful. Wonderful! The universe really likes to screw with me, doesn't it?
Ah well. It'll be nice to hit on Olivier again. Now that lady's one human that I could have sworn was a Saiyan. Though I have my feelings it's not going to be a social call... [Sigh.] I'd best prepare for battle, if the need arises.
Your update has been approved! Please finish up any current threads your character might be involved in and take him off the train for one week. When he returns he will be canon-updated and free to play.
