attention -- quest for the girl who loves olive trees.

*somewhere in the interim between one thread and the next, ros has acquired a picnic basket full of sweet fruit sandwiches -- he's already unwrapping one, might as well while it's still fresh, and thinks while he chews* are we questing now, then?

"Certainly not. Questing requires searching, delving, or hunting for someone or something or some cause." He takes a sandwich for himself. "But we are ready to begin questing, undoubtedly."

"well, that's good -- being ready to begin. you can't begin anything, i expect, unless you're ready to do it, and you can't do anything unless you begin." he pauses. "how does one begin ... ?"

"Presumably, in this case, by searching for dark-haired women."

embarassed, he admits, "i don't recall when it was where i saw her last. but i think the sun may've been shining -- that's a sort of when, isn't it? and a sort of where --"

He considers this a moment, charting out all possible locations at which one might have noted that the sun was shining. "Inconclusive," he decides at last. "Are there any olive trees within the local environs?"

"Then that will be our opening strategy." He makes no move to advance boldly until he has finished his sandwich.

"it's a lucky thing, too -- the weather's nice today." and they are very good sandwiches -- ros's is sliced strawberries with honey and cream cheese.

Palomides's probably has kiwi. :D "Indeed, although hardly the Mediterranean climate which one might expect in an area with olive trees."

"it isn't it? well -- i suppose we'll have to hope for something unexpected, then. usually that happens even when you aren't looking for it."

"Precisely when one isn't looking for it."

optimistic, "let's go out to the gardens, then, and look for lilac bushes -- i'm sure we shan't expect olive trees there."

"But if we look for lilac bushes with the intent not to expect to find olive trees ...?"

"well, that's thinking rather too hard about it, isn't it?"
