Despite my liberal affiliations I have to agree with this article. We have a similar problem with native americans up here. Granted white people came in, did horrible things, and basically conquered the country side. However, I did not take any part in it so don't get all bitchy and hold it against me that I don't think you deserve even more free shit than you're already getting, YOU didn't get shot by muskets. YOUR camp wasn't burnt to the ground last week. You were born in an urban environment in a first world nation complete with all the social assistance and benefits that go along with being the average citizen of said nation.
Doling out handouts only promotes laziness, the "what are you going to give me next" kind of attitude. I do think there should be some form of program(s) to ensure that all people, regardless of race/income get to start at as same a position as possible but after that I think it's up to the individuals. Until people take ownership for the fact that the only people at fault for them being layabouts with no work-ethic is themselves nothing is going to get better. This is not a problem indicative of race, look at trailer trash for example. White, lazy, poor and abso-fucking-lutely useless as far as contributing to the well being of society goes. Should we blame slavery? Maybe we should blame European encroachment into north America centuries ago. Maybe magical moon rays from Europa are turning these saltine motherfuckers into useless piles instead of manipulative greedy members of the upper class. Or maybe we should blame the fact that they only thing they're interested in is sitting about, smoking butts, and pissing away their money in the most useless and least productive ways possible.
Having said all this mind you, I don't think racism isn't out there, and I certainly don't think it doesn't play a contributing factor in keeping some people from getting the opportunities they deserve. However, there's a lot of useless people out there and the only thing they're interested in doing is getting more useless and bitching about the man.

Exactly. I think the comments below lost sight of what I was trying to get at.
What I liked about this article wasn't about race (that's actually where I thought he derailed himself), but more along the lines of charity should be 'teach a man to fish' not, 'here you go, have all this stuff.'
