NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Federal officials are investigating an incident in which a laser beam was aimed at a jet after it left Nashville International Airport bound for Chicago.
Pilots of a United Airlines flight heading to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Sunday reported seeing a green laser beam shortly after takeoff, said United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski.
The flight, which had about 30 people on board, landed safely in Chicago.
The FBI said it's investigating the incident along with the Transportation Security Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Federal agents are looking into similar incidents involving lasers and aircraft, including cases in Cleveland; Washington, D.C.; Houston; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Medford, Oregon; and Teterboro, New Jersey.
Laser beams can temporarily blind or disorient pilots and possibly cause a plane to crash. Federal law enforcement officials have said there is no evidence of a terrorist plot involving the laser beams.
Now, you have to be either high, dumb, or just plain american. In order to even slap the word terrorist on this.
first off, it's green. which means it probably came from thinkgeek, and happens to be one of 2 things, somebody on the ground pointing his laser while rather board at planes passing overhead ready for touchdown. or a geek inside of the plane waving it around out the window.
If out of some amazing coinicdence it just so happens to be a terrorist, the only person who could ever match up to such a feat would have to be the owner, and contributor to Afro Tech Mods The only man who's enginuitous and ghetto enough to come up with a rocket launcher out of computer parts lying around his room and a can of NINJA in order to take down planes.
The fact that people are passing up these options for the less likely "terrorist" amuses me. Infact, it amuses me on the same level as a kid who drew a gun on a piece of paper and got expelled from his elementry school. while when I was in school I had a concieled weapon and only got suspended for 3 days. Tell me again why it's wrong to move to Canada, New Zealand, The United Kingdom or Norway?
