An update from NY

I really didn't know what to expect from being home during this break, but wow, there's a whole lot of unexpected stuff that's gone on! It's good stuff, though. The only thing that I expected was Christmas' activities, and yup, Christmas this year was pretty much exactly like it's been for the past several years, w\ going to mass on Christmas Eve, opening presents on Christmas morning, eating breakfast, going to Aunt Barb's, and having lasagna and Italian pastries -- no big surprises.

I was expecting to hang out w\ my TUS girls and that happened, although I didn't think that we were going to go to all different spots in the city. We had a blast, though -- I guess it was a blessing in disguise that Dana was MIA when we showed up at her apartment!
Edit: Annie did a good job of writing down what we did, so check it out here!

Prior to coming home, I was in the mindset that Simone wasn't coming to NY, Angel might be coming, and Mike was and that I'd be hanging out on New Year's Eve w\ him at his ex-gf's. Well, as of this afternoon, Simone's coming from the 30th to the 5th (I managed to book the ticket so that she comes in to LaGuardia and leaves from Newark about 1 1/2 hours after I do -- sweet!), I found out yesterday that Angel's coming too, and although I'm not spending New Year's w\ Mike, yesterday we figured out that we're hanging out from the 1st to the 3rd! Needless to say, I'm absolutely THRILLED that I get to see all of them!!!! So I think Simone and I are hanging out w\ Angel, John, etc. for New Year's (wherever they're partying) -- coolness, huh? :)

I'm also psyched that I'm having dinner w\ Karol tomorrow and lunch w\ Cherish on Sunday (even though Simone's staying w\ me, she has other friends in NY that she wants to see at some point, basically when I have plans already made). Amy's party last night was fun -- I was thoroughly loving the mudslides and it was good to catch up w\ some friends (honors people) that I hadn't seen in awhile. Although my friend, Melissa, had been going out w\ her boyfriend, Peter, for over a year, most of us there had never met him, and we found it highly amusing that he looked like a spitting image of Keith!

Today I went to the wake for the grandmother of Rich and Stacey. I guess that it's natural that you feel bad for people when you go to their relative's wake, but on the plus side, you usually get to see people whom you haven't seen in awhile. I don't even remember the last time I saw Stacey -- it must've been at some BX event -- and it's been awhile since I've seen Rich -- we've been trying to make plans to hang out for the longest time, but it never happened. It was good to catch up w\ Stacey -- I miss talking w\ her and I hope that we stay in better touch now. Since Rich was affected by the death, Keith, Adam, and Mike all came to give their support, since they all lived in the apartment together (in addition to the DU connection) -- I haven't seen Keith since I bumped into him at McDonald's in May, I haven't seen Mike since my party in July '02, and if I didn't see Adam at homecoming in October '02, then I haven't seen him since that July '02 party either. I spent a good chunk of time catching up w\ Keith -- well, it was more of catching up about what's going on w\ him b/c I think he did about 90% of the talking -- it's all good, though. In trying to find the Cross County East to get back home, I got REALLY lost in Yonkers and ended up my Hastings-on-Hudson and eventually had to ask directions to the Saw Mill (I'm not familiar w\ the Saw Mill, but I knew that it goes through Hastings-on-Hudson). I found my way back to New Ro w\o a problem from there, and stopped by Carvel to get some ice cream, since the three stooges (my brother, Matt, and Pete) were running the place -- gotta love that "sister discount!"

Oh, I forgot to mention that I had awful ear problems starting during my flights home. For the couple of days afterwards, the problems (in my left ear -- the right one is fine) would range from popping to being clogged to being in excrutiating pain. Since then, I've been on a whole bunch of different medications and currently I have very little hearing w\ my left ear. Consequently, I hear a high-pitched whistling when I listen to music, I sound echo-y to myself when I talk, I can't tell how loud or soft that I'm talking, in addition to having what I term as "my brains leaking out." So yeah, if you're talking to me, make sure that you aim for my right ear b/c I'll have to say, "What?" about ten times more than usual if my left ear is the closest to ya!

I'm thoroughly enjoying the DSL at my house, although I think that my dad was kinda peeved that I accidently wiped Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint off the comp. I've IMed w\ a few people from NCCC since I've been home (Luke, Tracie, Jesse, and Jeff) and I sent text messages to my team on Christmas (although I think about 4-5 of them actually went through) -- I'm looking forward to getting back to Chucktown, although not before I see Mike, Simone, and Angel! I've been working on my post-holiday postcards -- I gotta tweak them some more and print them out so that I can start sending them out when we get to Arkansas.

I think that's basically it for now. I'm probably gonna spend the night catching up on various phone calls and stuff like that. So, without further ado, off I go!
